Scientists Create "Touchable" Holograms

on the market, yes. there were several attempts at VR by various companies that didn't make it to the shelves (Sega did one as well if i'm not mistaken). it has been in R&D up to now when the computers could actually pull off something resembling it. it is still quite a few years into the future before we start to see true VR. the 3DS is not the first jump back into it but it is hedging back into that direction. Nintendo, alongside Sony and various other media companies are slowly progressing the technology needed for the level of reality needed to create something similar to the holodeck or .hack's Twilight-style gaming.

 

The 3DS isn't about Virtual Reality, it's about producing seemingly 3D images.
