I know who came up with it! It's a stupid idiot who knew art and he wanted to seem clever :p
Art requires skill, not intelligence so they are wrong :p

social studies is useless to all fields unless you become a social studies teacher.
    that is pretty much it.

people that i know that have history majors can only get a job in teaching, and be a history teacher.

or you can be a scholar of a particular field which is highly unlikely.

History, Classics and Latin help you get into good universities, that's their best use...

Thanks for bringing up the "good university" point as there is something I have to say about that.

It doesn't matter which university you attend. What matters is what field of study you choose that determine what kind of career you get. For example, a student who attends Yale and only studies Psychology will have a more difficult time finding a decent job (with good pay!) compared to someone who attends a local state college or university and majors in hi-tech field such as Physics.

So, for those who are aiming for "good" IvyLeague Universities, you may want to take these two factors into consideration:

    * Tuition cost / cost of living: If you don't have a full-blown scholarship (i.e. a scholarship that covers all of your costs), forget it. You'll end up in debt with ridiculously high school loans to pay off after you graduate, or you will struggle between working and keeping up with your studies.

    * Purpose: What career goal do you have in mind? If you don't have one, you can forget applying to IvyLeague schools as well since all you are likely going to be doing is wasting your money on some pointless major that leads you to a dubious career.

I get really good grades but I have no clue whatsoever what I want to do... School should help you about Job Oppertunities as well... :(

A good question to start off is 'what are your interests?' Do you have an idea of what career you want to have? If not, what type of careers or jobs do you NOT want to have? (Yeah, that question is quite counterintuitive but it at least helps narrow your goals down by elimination.)

Also, think about what your life-term goals are. Do you want to work for a company for the rest of your life? Or do you want to someday run your own firm or business?

After giving some thought about the responses to those questions, start outlining a plan of how you are going to get to your goal. Remember that your "ultimate goal" shouldn't be about getting into a university, but obtaining an ideal career that you want to have.

    * Just to help you out CJDogger, one thing you should definitely aim for in life is financial stability and independency (i.e. not incurring financial debt, and being able to afford your own house, car, etc.) You have probably heard of the term "rat-race" before, right?

they only help you to GET IN a college, not necessarily saying that you will stay there.

someone that i went to high school with, that I truly despise, had a "history" background, was going to University of Michigan, and I told her straight up that she will NOT last the first semester.

It is because she completely ignored the math department, not being well versed in calculus or the pre-calc course, that she will fail.

Yes, I met one of my friends who has an ancestral divination to stand 1st in each term of each class, but unfortunately that guy hated to study and ended failing. I remember his mother takin' the hell out of him. Actually it depends on the person's personal concerntation property determining how much they can study. Actually nowadays even failures get top-notch jobs after graduating college by understanding their families history.

SOS or Social Studies is pretty fun, we learn about other countries and the Treaty of Waitangi, and we are currently learning about the Bok tour and South Africa. But the only thing I hated was earlier in the year, we had to learn about SPIES, Social, Physical (everyone got the wrong idea), Intellectual, Emotional, Spiritual.

I think I might go into politics because i'm good at arguing(not anymore ;_; ), I might go into law (not a lawyer, it's boring but more of a high-up job in enforcement probably...) ... I'll think about later...

My lecturer once let a student pass his subject because that student asked him the requirements to fail in his class. He is a very cynical man.
