That's kind of crap that DOESN'T belong in a debate. We're all very tolerant of each other in practice, I'm sure. But this board is to discuss things, and we're discussing religion. Just because you're offended or don't agree does NOT mean anyone is being intolerant. I'm so sick of political correctness e.e It is counter-productive to discussions because it demands people tip-toe around their actual statements because some people might cry >_>
I agree, people should be mature enough to accept criticism on something they believe in, and if they aren't then they should probably have a good long, hard look at themselves and their beliefs. After all, if a religion can't withstand a little criticism, there probably wouldn't be any religions today.
You have no obligation to follow Islam. Islam basically says to you: you have a choice, and it doesn't care whether you are a Muslim or not. You can believe it or not. It doesn't FORCE you to believe. Your statement is true for all beliefs and ideas. Capitalists would, for example, say that our life will suck if we follow Communism.
I vote you STFU Tolerence is stupid, tolerant people get took advantage of... Tell them people in the city centre that
Cjdogger, You STFU!Troll. Im not saying be tolerant for myself. It's the other posters who should be. Reading all the comments from kids who go muslim this and muslim that. I thought we were discussing the documetary religuluos, then these fucks come along. Now if everyone would just lay off an take an objective look at every fucking religion and how they fucking worship, then we could get back on track. Instead of going atheist or god fearing screw this, you just lost me to the reitards and the flying spaghetti.
if i posted twice then it was obviously an accident......however this kid is being disrespectful on purpose, so yer i have a rite to rant.....and queen=female.....just a dum nik name from skool....
In my opinion religion has done a lot to earn respect. if you believe there is no evidence to prove a religion is not true, i beg to differ as there is heaps of evidence/proof out there if you look! if you believe religion has done nothing to earn respect, there are millions, billions of people who would disagree with you on that. No ones getting offended because you are "calling upon them to verify their claims." people get offended by some of the things you've said in this discussion because they are OFFENSIVE! hence the censorship....
O rly? What have I said that is offensive that ISN'T true? When something is offensive, it's only so subjectively. If there exists heaps of evidence for a religion, then kindly present it so I can debunk it. Otherwise, I might get offended and cry myself to sleep tonight.
Being religious & having a religion are two different things: Having a religion is being a part of & believing in a religion Being religious, which by the way IS the topic of this discussion is being passionate about something to the point that "that something" is all that matters to you. Like being a part of a religion, say Christianity, you believe in Christianity's teachings & follow its cannons, weither blindly or half inquisitively, that's being religious. This also applies to anything outised the realm of theology itself, you could be a religious perfectionist, but to that effect religious becomes obsessive, same with cleanliness, you could be religious with hygeine or house keeping but then this translates to obsessive compulsive behaviour. So in effect, though you never let people in, & love to piss people off with your abusive posts, you are just being a religious atheist, you don't believe in any theological construct & you keep harassing people for it. What if religious people turn the tables & start picking on you, how would you feel? That is if you can feel anything at all, after all emotions are an extention of the human soul & since you don't believe in souls, therefore you have no emotions 8) And what DO religious people get out of "believing in something"? Hope. Hope for something better, we don't vecessarily cling to our beliefs as if we'll die if we stop believing, instead we believe because we are hoping for a better future. And it may amuse you that we believe in the unrealistic, atleast we believe in something, unlike you, when you die, you're just like an obsolete piece of junk that rusts & decays after being discarded, but worse, you just lay there decaying, dying believing in nothing while the maggots & other decomposers feast on your lifeless decaying matter. We too may suffer the same fate, but atleast we believe in God, Allah, Buddha, Marduk or even Satan himself & that's good enough reason to us to keep on living.
I'm still waiting for an actual argument to be presented. Or perhaps some evidence that any religion is slightly true (as claimed by Cj). Or a list of reasons that any religion deserves respect. This topic is about being religious in the 'belief on faith' sense. Actually it was about a movie, but the topic drifted. Saying that I'm being a 'religious atheist' by making actual claims (I haven't attacked anyone; everything I've said is valid) is entirely pointless. So instead of censoring, calling me a 'basher', or 'an atheist', or 'offensive', why not actually REPLY to what I'm saying. Stop sidestepping things. Jesus Fucking Christ =_= Notes: (1) - If I were trolling you'd know. Simply because people get pissed at my posts doesn't mean it was my intention. Although really, I don't care who gets offended at my posts, because hurt feelings are not a valid rebuttal to any presented argument. (2) - Go for it. I don't get offended by anything other than horrible logic. Emotions are a construct of the brain made possible by chemical release due to outside stimulus and other factors. What evidence is there that a soul even exists? Unless you mean 'emotions' as ideas and not feelings, in which case my argument remains identical. What evidence is there that a soul even exists, and furthermore, why should anyone believe that emotions are extensions of this 'soul' when we can provide scientific evidence that they are constructs of the brain? (3) - This is what you've just said: Religious people are better because they think good stuff might happen. If it doesn't and they are disappointed by their expectations, well, at least they deluded themselves. When I die, I'll rot like every other scrape of organic matter on this planet. And even though you will as well, at least you did thinking you wouldn't. Really? That's something you're proud of? Self-delusion because you don't have the capacity or personal strength to see the world for what it truly is? Some ancient guys wrote a book and you're willing to spend your entire life living by it even if it isn't true simply so that you can 'be happy'? But oh no, I can't be happy living. I can't enjoy living, live with the freedom to make my own decisions based on my own brain-work. And when I die, I won't be afraid because I'm not scared of some arbitrary sky-daddy judging me for that perfectly natural (and scientifically understood) things I did in privacy? Lol to you, sir. Lol to you.
Because there is no argument to be presented here. No one can prove religion exists. But people still believe in it because there must be a purpose to their life. We are not all a piece of meat that just happens to breathe and think. There must be something out there after life. If you don't believe in anything, then you have nothing to really live for. If you have nothing to believe in your life is meaningless and hence you really don't serve a purpose. As Cahos said, emotions are really important for your soul and whether you like it or not, you have motions too. It's not as simple as you just being an individual with nothing setting you apart from anyone else. We think and have a conscious for a reason and that ties in with religion because it is that religion that governs how you live your life and how it will proceed after your death, and who are you to say that that is not the way it is going to happen?!?! Oh and why does religion deserve respect? Because it stems from the person themselves believing in their faith, and you must respect that person as it is the right thing to do. If you don't believe in their religion then don't spend your life trying to disprove it. Move on and respect the fact that every person is entitled to their opinion and their beliefs and that is what you should be respecting in essence.
Religion does exist, I assure you. Why can't we all just be pieces of meat that breath and think? Because that makes you sad? Sorry, but that's not logically reasoned. Simply because something upsets you does not effect it's truth value or validity. I'm all for freedom of belief. However, the respect of someone's religious freedom does not mean they're exempt from criticism. I believe that Scientology members should be legally able to believe what they please. but that doesn't mean I can't point out the fallacies and lulz in their beliefs. If your logic were valid, then mental patients should not be committed because we have to 'respect their beliefs'. Who am I to say it won't happen that way? I'm not saying it won't happen. The possibility exists that ANY religion is 100% true. However, that doesn't mean I'll refrain from criticizing people who believe something simply because they want it to be true. Allowing for the fact that anything is possible is fine. But actually committing to something just because you happen to like that particular dogma, or just so happen to have been raised in a religious family, is the ultimate forfeit of your rational brain and deserves no respect.
No one can ever present the kind of "proof" or material you're seeking as you well know that religion is built mostly of faith & actually believing, & you know this as a fact & use this to your advantage.

Yes, I know for a fact that most religious beliefs are based upon faith (Read: Nothing) and I use this as a point in my argument that there is no reason to respect religion. Does it not hold sound? I'm pretty sure it does.
What if I say, "You really piss us off & we don't want to respect you", does that sound reasonable to you as well? So, if you want people to respect you, or even acknowledge that you exist, you must also respect them along with their beliefs as well. We're not asking you to join us, just respect & accept us.
Respect is earned through trust, not bought through 'belief'. I don't trust any of the religions which have stemmed from Judaeism, they're far to quick to kill for their beliefs and to me that is the lowest thing you can do. Kill and then try and shift responsibility for it onto your 'faith'. @ q_u_3_3_n : There's a modify button next to the quote button on your own comments, please stop double posting, it's kind of annoying.
EXACTLY, maybe, just maybe they will listen to you... And bloody R E S P E C T?! Lol... You think it's important?! Ooh... "Don't hate me... Respect me... :'(" What crap... If you think Respect will help backup your beliefs or help you then you are wrong. In an argument you need facts as well, how can you back something up when all you have is other religious nutjob's 'Respect'? And after death, if you stubborn religious believers listened to Science as well you would know that Energy never goes away and we think and feel because of electricty going through our body, so when you die that energy will do something else you won't just be gone, your memories most definately but not your 'soul'. Why can't you believe in that instead? You just think Science means "rot in ground" we know about your beliefs...
Your not listening and you don't understand what respect is. If you're not going to actually debate in this forum, then I would not be upset if you skee-daddled.
Okay let's see you guys try to make a debate argument, say with the President of your country or a king & don't even show any sign of respect to them, I'd be surprised if you don't get carted off their pressence in a minute much less sent to prison because of your arrogance.
