    Not really, Rock 'n' Roll is 60's! Rock is now called rock, without the 'n' and roll

    Forgive my french.

    Dumbass.

    I won't lie, Rock requires a lot of passion and skill, but that's a pretty stupid thing to say. Rap absolutely requires no talent at all?

    I guess it's safe to say that rappers are modern day poets, saying the words of the streets. Not everyone can string together words that sound good, and actually make sense. And rap isn't only about sex, drugs, money, cars and guns. It has a lot of emotion in it. Obviously, you don't do research or think properly before you say things.

    Work on your discourse. and your knowledge of music, chum.

    Ugh, so much ignorance in this thread that I'm not even going to bother addressing the people that are completely wrong.

    To answer the question, I like both. I'm a fan of music and I'm not only confined to one genre of choice. I like to have variety. There's shit on both sides of the coin. There's a lot of crappy rap as much as there is shitty rock. In fact, most of the bands that are coming out nowadays are complete ass to me. There's only a few selected bands that I actually enjoy. The same applies to rap. Both genres have highly influenced the music industry and to make statements like one genre requires more skill than the other is plain out ludicrous.

    I found myself actually broadening up my musical taste as I got older, having actually studied music in college. It really helps to be very open minded because music comes in very different forms and if you keep an open mind about music in general, you'll find that even the genre you dislike could produce wonderful musical pieces into the world.

    Here's an old school awesome rap song. Hopefully some of you have heard it before because it's a downright classic.

    He's 14, forgive him.

    All forms of music need alot of talent and hardwork...it's just that rap/pop/rnb are a dime a dozen.

    Thus they seem crap because there is so much of it.

    If you wanna start a war, this is how one post.

    I do advise being more careful.

    Stop posting about how Rock is good, and Rap is bad. It's a matter of opinion. I can guarantee you don't like half the sub-genres of rock that exist.

    Just enjoy music and stop posting nonsense.

    What are you talking about, I love most of the rock sub genres! I like:
    * Alternative metal
    * Alternative rock
    * Avant-garde metal
    * Beat
    * Black metal
    * Blackened death metal
    * Blues-rock
    * Electric blues
    * Electronic rock
    * Experimental rock

    I don't really like the other 20 or so

    So when you say "MOST" you mean a few. When you try to prove me wrong, you prove me right?

    Ok, good job there.

    Yeah, alright. I'm letting this slide.

    But still, no matter what age you are, you've gotta know what's right to say. Opinions may be opinions, but wrong is still wrong.

    By the way, no matter how much I defend rap's integrity, I still favor rock. :p

    If you think most Rap sounds the same you need to turn off the radio 95% of it is trash if not 100%. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kA5FVzsQjKo&feature=related

    If you think it takes no skill watch the video http://vimeo.com/8213384 (skip to 1:09) sure it looks easy but its easier said than done. Also this guy mimics a guitar with a snare. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j42SdmiU0kg

    I respect all types of music but its stupid to say one is better than the other do your research and don't use the radio as your source.

    Personally, I think rock and all subgenres of guitar music sounds very gruff and dirty. almost to the point where i would feel disgusted to touch a guitar. I like acoustic though, thats the only exception. and I'm beginning to like rap a bit more. no, not the rap you here on the radio or your mtv or whatever, thats full of S***. All of you need to stick your head out of the car window and actually hear the real music.
