    As in homebrew...

Hey... that's not a bad idea!

We can have an official "Homebrew" team!

They'd get tons of money, and we won't get caught!
Even though the chance of getting caught for copyright infringement is slim to none.
Unless you live right next door to the company.

I bet barely anyone has ever got caught for downloading DS games, 4 of my friends do it.

I'm the only one in my group that does downloading of roms-but I see what you mean.

If you don't torrent too much then you might never get caught.

Torrents can be tracked...ip adress is displayed and thus can be tracked-I seen that happen to some members here before :(

    My IP automatically changes.

    HAH!

    Take that Nintendo!
    And Sega!
    And Sony!

Sucks that I have to use WIFI USB connector though.

Ohh damn thats scary! what are the chances of me getting caught for getting a NDS game?

    Pretty low...

Nintendo pretty much only goes for the hosts.

    HOWEVER.

Downloading music illegally will fine you heavily, maybe even jail.

If your caught with roms and you lack the originals it's just as heavy.

but wait this is a noob question how do they find out? and Nintendo is the one that finds you right? not my internet provider? right? also just another question how do you change Ip if they track you down by Ip?

Your internet provider CAN give you away, but some of those guys that work there are as smart as my little brother.

you change your IP, it makes them work harder to find you.
They track your location... Anyways, as soon as they get your address.... Well... your screwed.

I know how to hard erase all traces of dealextreme and my roms on my computer.
    That pretty much fixes it.

And Nintendo doesn't know where to look for the Roms sometimes.

But... you will have yo hide any trace of your flashcart.

What!? they can get my adress through IP? how the hell do they do that?
Also I'm a bit knew to the internet only my first year on the net sooo How would I go about changing my IP? and last question when you say all traces of your Roms do you mean all of them? like refromating your computer or just the roms?
how would you go about doing that? like keeping them all on one folder and then delete? andClear histor or something?

They have an ip tool that is pro. Better than this: http://ip-address.cc/
My IP only changes cause of Verizon's USB760's hardware
My changing ip usually bounces to Long Beach in a Trailer Park. They can still track me though, through the server that hosts my internet.
If you watch CSI/NCIS... You would know.
You have to go through Command Prompt to change your IP, I think. If I would rate on how hard this is, it would be 8/10.
And if you have a file shredder, it deletes your files from temporary internet files, windows temporary files, your $RECYCLEBIN folder, your actual Recycle bin, your registry, and any trace of that file. And you have to delete all emails from romsites and your account, if possible

Overall, for me, the struggle is 5/10, because I disabled all email request from RomU and DSemu, and already have a changing ip.
I also have a file shredder.

CSI/NCIS have no reflection on reality. It is virtually impossible to trace IPv4 address with any guarantee of accuracy, certainly not enough accuracy to be scientifically acceptable. You cannot just change a public IP address as you would lose all connectivity. Besides, your computer more likely has a private IP address that cannot be routed on the internet. Also, shredding files does not make them unrecoverable.

ok well reason why i asked is becuause durring the month of heartgold soul silvers release I downloaded a mess load of HGSS roms for testing and on that same month a cop came driving by and stopped at in front of my house and I think he was like looking for something or maybe writing something down and then took off. I found it strange and this is what got me worried what could this mean? and are my chances of getting caught lowered by downloading less and less? or does it have nothing to do whith that?

Ohh and about my brothers and neighbores what if they start downloading? will that effect only me? since I'm the one with internet?

it was most likely a coincidence. if other people start downloading on your connection then the situation depends on what country you live in, and whether or not they have your permission to.

Coincidence huh? hmm wonder what he was doing still lol. Anyway I live in US soo not entirely sure of my own laws when it comes to downloading especially if my neighbores or family do this.

Meh, if you dont wanna get caught, just use your neighbor's internet!

I have a public IP. And? It tracks to Long Beach, and I live in San Diego.

And I know CSI/NCIS have little reflection on reality, but it is possible.
Difficult, and maybe inaccurate, but possible. And, my WLAN is disabled.
No private IP they can track either.

And, my uncle taught me to MAKE SURE it is unrecoverable by the way.
He only had a few minutes, so it was difficult to understand him but...
He used the file shredder, and showed which directories that can be searched for the file
(ie. .../temp or .../$RECYCLEBIN) and to shred those too.

Since most cops don't really care in my town, it's usually the feds and the actual company that will get you.

It is still probably a coincidence...

Networking is my job. It is not possible with any guarantee of accuracy, as I said. My public IP tracks to Leicestershire, and I don't live anywhere near there, hence my point about there being no guarantee of accuracy.

I reiterate, shredding does not make a file unrecoverable, I have software that will recover it even when shredded. even if its been shredded beyond recovery software it can still be recovered by specialist hardware.

    Okay...

Never heard of that recovering software, that is CREEPY.
I may have heard it on something like NCIS or a video game, but, err...

Think it was Splinter Cell, one of the terrorists was like "Wipe the hard drives first! Then shoot them! American dogs can still recover that data!"

And I agreed that IP tracking is innacurate, because I don't live in a trailer park in Long Beach.
    Or in Hawaiian Gardens.

I told you my IP bounces and changes... I LOVE YOU VERIZON. ;D;D;D

My IP is static... but everyone with my isp has the same IP.

That is true, your IP can be tracked to your ISP. Then your ISP will bust you.

Also loony, I heard the Department of Defense use a certain way to shred files.
Using the "American DOD 5220.22-M" method, included in Glary Utilities.
