the ds LITE is better that the psp. i know it doesnt make any difference to the gameplay but i hate the look of the original ds

i also like the ds more because of the game titles it has mario/sonic/pokemon are all on the ds.

This is a VERY hard decision but I think NEITHER takes the cake

an NDS/NDSlite come at the price of about 100$$
then the DSi coming at about 180$$
pretty cheap, considering a PSP can go up to 200$$
    THATS WITHOUT HACKING/ROMS

and NDS/NDSlite has 2 slots for games. the NDS carts and the GB carts.
it has dual screen, bottom one being touch screen.
even comes with an alarm clock and a calendar, which is pretty neat
the DSi even gets better with that capability of taking & editing pictures. editing music and neat little apps like that.
this of course will require an SD memory card which can range from 5$ - 60$ depending on size of memory.
PSP is able to have music, pictures, videos, and can surf the web
this one needs an MemoryStick ProDuo which is much more pricey than an SD which can then range from 20$ - 100$
also depending on size of memory and transfer speed.

now you must remember most games can be priced at a mere 5$ but popular game titles go up to an expensive 60$ !
this is where gamecarts/flashcarts and homebrew come in !
carts for the NDS/NDSlite or DSi can price to 30$ - 150$
this usually includes the cart, and adapter for the MicroSD, and an MicroSD usually 1-2GB
with the cart, you can add more applications, even letting you surf the web and playing all the games yo can ever want !
provided that there is an available ROM for it

the PSP on the other hand can be much more pricey
requiring a bigger memory to be able to have space for the Homebrew itself [which can usually be about 1Gb], the different apps and of course, music, pictures and games. games require bigger space so more games will need more space.
you will also need another battery to make a Pandora's battery an extra Memory stick to create a MagicStick
this will require a good amount of money
and it doesn't end there !
there is a chance of bricking your PSP which may render it useless and worse comes to worse, unrepairable.
theres is also the fact that this is actually illegal [I think?] and causes the Warranty to be void
so if anything should happen to your PSP, you will have to pay for repairs even if the Warranty covers it.
PSP can be pricey, but if you get down the whole thing right, can be very rewarding
with awesome games, better looking graphics, capability of pictures, music and fast web surfing

but in the end, the consumer is the one to decide
I have both, with an R4 and my PSP not hacked
    and I'm quite satisfied !
but at the end of the day, YOU my friend will be the one to decide which one you want !

Psp had great potential, I bought it the first day, same with the NDS. NDS kind of won, yeah...but psp had so much more it could do. The problem was, UMDs aren't my favorite game cartridge system...maybe the pspgo will be best because it does away that. (Imagine a hacked pspgo that uses a pspemulator, oh the irony!) But still...psp was meant to serve more purposes, and the NDS was straight up for games, so it is a kinda unfair comparison really... though I guess DSi blows that out of the water too...hm....sad

well it's not really a bad comparison, because yeah PSP can do a lot of stuff the DS can't but we're talking about a gaming handheld here.

if were talking about multimedia, the iPhone trumps them both.

This whole discussion concerns the PSP or PSP slim against the NDS or NDS lite.
If you want to compare DSi to something, then compare it to the new PSP Go! or whatever the hell that's called.

The DSi is basically a PSP knockoff, trying to touch base with multimedia purposes. And since it's had since the PSP was released to build these features, and more, I would expect nothing less than for it to be better than the original PSP's features.

And just like with any new console, the titles at launch are shit.

Both. I've got a DS Lite and a PSP-1000. They each have their charm, games and gameplay styles.
The only thing that annoys me is that DS games are rather expensive here, especially when compared to the PSP games. I also spent more money for using custom stuff on the DS than the PSP. I've got both a slot 1 and 2 for the DS, but for the PSP I only bought a Pandora battery, then made a magic memory stick myself. Which was rather easy with a computer application called "PSP Pandora Deluxe", which pretty much did the entire thing for me.

Hahaha, then what do you call the SixAxis controller with motion controls? or even PSP Go with mic features?

DSi adds a camera and better picture quality, and it automatically becomes a PSP knock-off? Dude, you seriously need to get of Tretton's nuts because: 1) the PSP does NOT have a camera and 2) The DSi still is a terrible multimedia device.

I don't know what else to say since that's pretty straightforward.

Knockoffs sometimes are better than the original product, with the original product being forgotten.

The Sixaxis controller is a poorly rushed knockoff that I absolutely HATE. Why can't we just have a regular gaming system: buttons, screen, some sort of high capacity storage device with Wi-Fi, and be on our way. No Mic, no touch screen, no motion sensor, nothing that's poorly designed.
    1) Well shit, the DSi BETTER have something by now to one-up the PSP.
    2) The PSP is also a terrible multimedia device.

These ideas revolving around All-in-one isn't the way to go. The PSP has multimedia, that's great, except my iPod or iPhone (Zune, any big MP3/video player) can do it better. I'd rather have a system that does one specific thing that does it great, than to have 5 other features and 4 of the features are horrible and never used.

I hate it when people compare across generations. Let's compare a Gamecube to a PS3, or a Wii to a PSX, or 360 to an N64. It's the same thing as comparing the NDS to the PSP Go or the DSi to the PSP. That was the main point of my previous post.

Sony ALWAYS destroys a device with potential. Lika PSP, Eye or Sixaxis. Even Home.

If PSP's SDK was cheaper (it is now) we were playing tons of games with our PSP rgiht now. They made it expensive becouse they thought it would mod the console. Well, console is modded and PSP has few games now.

Eye and Sixaxis could be awesome but Sony never tried to create sometihng new with them and boom, Nintendo stole it.

My point is PSPGo! will change PSP. SDK (sony develpoment kit) is getting about %40 cheaper. That's a big step.

DS has way better games and is now improving in its graphics as well which makes the PSP seem like unobsolete.

Apart from games, exclusives there is something: DS' graphics can NOT get close to PSP's. DS' graphics are worst than PSX's, while PSP can play PSX games.

I am not a fanboi but theese consoles have some technical limits. You can't say DS is getting better graphics. Mario Kart is the best DS can get, as 3D.

Yes. Even if you don't like the system, turn around and sell it for more than what you paid for.

But at least try it first before you sell it. My cousin gave me a psp 1000 unopened and at the time I didn't like the psp. I sold it and then all my friends had gotten psp like a week later and I was left in the dust. Plus I played need for speed on it and it was good. Now I miss my psp :(
