hey, I have a question about the PSP... My friend let me borrow his Slim PSP, am I able to use the Pandora method to mod it and download games on it? (Im pretty sure you can do it for the Slim, if you can for the Phat)
Choice...you have just as many choices with a PSP. There are plenty of sites, torrents, etc. to download PSP games for free for the exact same purpose that you download DS games. The generics or multi-platformers usually suffer most on the DS end. For example, let's take Star Wars The Force Unleashed. Absolutely baller on the consoles like X360, PS3, and the Wii. Okay on the PSP, sorta laggy/clippy from the file. And absolutely horrendous for the NDS. Would've been better if the graphics were cel-shaded or something to smooth it out. Everything looked very jagged, and it was really difficult to move around, do combos or do anything besides swinging the lightsaber blindly. Gameplay > Graphics. The NDS version failed miserably at both. To summarize, the multi-platformers should be played on the most powerful systems, such as a well equipped PC; or 360 or PS3, and depending...Wii.
"Choice" doesn't mean the number of sites that offer downloads, but the number of genres that a console supports. The NDS has mainly Strategy games, but they also have RPGs, FPSs, Casual games, Platformers, and even Sports and Fighting games (although i admit, is lackluster compared to PSP's sports and fighting titles). You're weird. Why would you say something, then give a crappy game as an example? Moreso, this is a PSP vs DS thread, and you mentioned a crappy game for both systems? But to argue your point, if the developers create a game for the home consoles, and then simply port it to the portables, then yes, it WILL be crappy. They should revise the game based on what the system offers. Case in point, Geometry Wars: Galaxies. Now this is a great game for the XBOX360, but when translated to the DS, it became one of the best NDS titles. You're being great on your earlier points, and then you make a stupid comment like this? Come on, tell me that TWEWY, Valkyrie Profile DS, Ninja Gaiden: Dragon Sword, etc "failed miserably" at both gameplay and graphics. Duh. Home consoles are more powerful than portables. Of course they'll look that way. Revise the games to suit the portable console and you'll get a great game for sure.
The NDS is a simple but able to fulfill all the gamers need like the Gunpey philosophy which is practical but never short of attraction -Huge game library with multi-genres (except sport i guess) -innovative (even the GTA is one of the kind, Ninja Gaiden was cool and not to mention other) -fast load time that can fit anytime we need our gaming shots anywhere -great remakes like the FF series -Long Battery Life NDS takes the advantage to the fullest and makes others competitor suffer the same fate like the GameBoy's competitor. The PSP was cool with all the features such as the AV out, superb specs, the screen was flawless and also the not to mentioned it was a very sexy piece of gadget but there are several points that brings it downfall in my opinion :- - Limited Genres - where are the RPGs? who want to play action games all the time? the main genre was limited to Action and FPS - Limited Games - let's be honest, how many games that came out in the whole 2008 and 2009 that is hit game compare to NDS? - Limited Hit Game - MGS, God of Wars, FF-VII, Monster Hunters...anymore my friends? compare to the long list of NDS - Limited Innovative - TouchScreen, Mic, WiFi - Nuff said - Load time is a problem as by the time u loaded the game, the bus ride may ended and not suitable for short time The advantage of PSP is that it has real good graphicand power but was never really taken advantage of. I am not Nintendo fanboy but just sad that the PSP lack of killing blow with all the advantages.
NDS does have WiFi too with some solid WiFi Gaming either Local LAN or the Nintendo WiFi where else PSP is more limited to Local LAN (correct me if i am wrong as I am staying in Malaysia). True that you could go online with PSP but face the fact the the control to browse web and the interface to key-in address is just not as practical as the function. NDS does not have groundbreaking games? Well.... I would say its up to personal taste as there is a lot of games that break the norm like the Mario Kart, GTA:China Wars, Cooking Mama, Ninja Gaiden, Advance Wars. In my experiance, I can have PSP but dunno what game to play as the variety was low and NDS gives me a lot of choices compares to the PSP. Just my 2 cents and happy to share other opinions too.
lol, DS also HAS wifi that's miles better than the PSP, and Zelda, TWEWY, Jump Ultimate Stars, Castlevania, Advance Wars, Ace Attorney, Trauma Center, Rhythm Heaven, Ouendan, Valkyrie Profile, Suikoden Tierkreis, New SMB, Nintendogs, etc ARE groundbreaking titles, unless you live under a rock, or so full of yourself. or you think a gazillion of cliche Hack and Slash games are "groundbreaking"
Well, if I was offered a DS or a PSP and was told "The DS doesn't come with anything except a chat client built into it, but you can buy a flashcart to give you the ability to play an unlimited amount of games, watch movies and play music and a web browser for an extra 10-15 bucks" or "The PSP comes with a built in MP3 player, movie player, and web browser, but in order to download games, you have to buy a special battery/modchip, modify your firmware, and not be able to play the newest games, all costing you around 30 bucks" I think I would go for the DS....
Except that is a lie. Everything required to put custom firmware on your PSP costs about 5USD. Takes about 15 minutes. All together it's cheaper than the cheapest DS Flashcarts. And with 5.00 M33-6, I haven't ran into any PSP games it can't play.
Sony aims for the graphics but Nintendo aims for the addiction so I prefer the DS (Or should I say the DSi )...
Well...except that you can't do it on the PSP3000 but FlashCart still can run on the DSi Pro :- Sony finally able to fight piracy Con :- A lot of ppl hate the idea of not able to run roms
One can't deny that a PSP will look better than a NDS or DSi but in the end its like you want to own a gaming device that looks cool or a gaming device that you enjoy playing with. The NDS and DSi had improved a lot in the look segment and I must say they did a good job as it makes NDS and DSi a practical poratable device. Look back the history, the GameBoy was ugly compares to others like GameGear,Lynx,NeoGeo Pocket or WonderSwan but yet it outlived they all. IMHO: Sony did a good job to drive Nintendo to give us better product like NDS. And PSP is so far the strongest competitor Nintendo ever had. I like a healthy competition in the console wars.
Well, there was a breakthru, and it seems they can run Homebrew on the 3000 now. Still can't play PSP Backups, but it's a step in the right direction.
