Actually, when I play either system, my computer is my central area. Everything is done by my computer. It hooks up to your TV but that still doesn't let me use a DVD on a PSP. In that case, I would just use a DVD player. The whole point was that a UMD ONLY works on a PSP. Should've been called a PMD or PSPMD, not UMD. It's very frustrating when you are trying to trade or battle and it disconnects right in the middle of it. Then trying to reconnect takes another 30 minutes for two people to be on at the exact same time again. I remember trading with Cloudboii and that was a big pain in the ass trying to get a good connection. That's the one I was playing and when we did Download Play, we only had 2 characters to choose from, scorpion and raiden. It does matter what other people have, but for most online games, they have a ping on the servers and I just pick the ones with the lowest ping. For games like Wow, they only allow people with broadband connections to play.
Although wifi and wireless is decent, I can go on my DS at my friends house in the bathroom, his router is at the other side of the house. Although don't ask me why I like to play my DS in the bathroom. Yeah that cable was shipped with the PSP slims, so it's not compatible with the phat ones. Wifi together works flawlessly, remember you can't be that far apart. Also when disconnected, it's probably the router's fault, it usually cuts most of the time, so expect disconnections, so it's not really Nintendo's fault for that.
I play my DS in the bathroom too, just I tend to pick a light game instead of a heavy one like an RPG or something. Sometimes I'll be done with my business but I'll stay in there for another 20 minutes because I'm in the middle of an epic battle or I'm trying to get through a cave. I bought a $270 router last year. It NEVER cuts out. And I know it certainly isn't my ISP. My only concrete evidence on that matter is the abundance of youtube videos (pokemon battling) all having a disconnect. It's not just one person getting the disconnects either, it's just about everyone.
the bathroom is my favorite place to play DS and i get a pretty good wifi connection evrywhre in ma house
Actually, the average bathroom is cleaner sanitary-wise than your average kitchen. Just something to think about.
just like an cube that has been sitting in room temperature for six hours gathers as much bacteria as there is in toilet water
playing anything while dumping waste in the bathroom causes uncomfortable pooping and may prolong your stay due to an unrelaxed mind and body. may also cause disorders. and anyone would rather get rotten moldy stuff on their hands than sh*t
i prefer my psp because i can take my ps1 games around on it, the actual releases for the console dont really interest me too much so if it couldnt do that then i would have sold it by now
But what if you're on a road trip, or a train, plane etc. But you know, when buying the UMD that you can only play it on the PSP. But, apparently they're making a UMD player: http://www.psxextreme.com/psp-news/387.html Once again, I've basically never had a problem. It might be that you're far, far away from eachother, and one of you may have a slow internet connection. I could play as Scorpion, Raiden, Kitana, and Jade. Not true, some of my cousins only have dial-up, and they can play WoW.
Again, my laptop is my central area. I bolded your phrase that is the main point of it being "universal." Obviously, it isn't. We are, and I'm not sure if CB12 has cable or anything equivalent. I'm not sure what they have over there. I'll have to someday boot it up and see. For now, my NDS stays as my alarm clock and that is all it does. Must be a US thing. Dial up is almost nonexistent in the US so we will never know...
skambu youre from asia right? or your cousins that use dial up are from asia? cause dial up in the west that just not right the internet speed in the west doesnt even get below 1mb per sec i think
it does, 20% of the UK can't get broadband, and a lot of those that can aren't hugely faster than dial up. I do know people in the US with dial up, and I'd imagine theres a large number of them in the remote areas.
hey same here(but its 50% here) whoa cant imagine the WEST having dial up users(THE INTERNET WAS MADE IN THE WEST!!! then theres still some DIAL UP USERS?!?!) and that most broadband subscribers internet speed arent that fast is very very similar here(recommended speed for globe is 500kbps you get about 5-50 kbps)
ADSL does not scale very far from the telephone exchange, and cable is only available in urban areas. That leaves dial up for people in rural areas, unless they go for something like VSAT, which is hugely expensive. To put it into context, my telephone exchange can do ADSL up to 8mbit. I live 2.5 miles from the exchange, and get 1.5mbit on a good day.
for a newbie then, which would you suggest? im leaning towards the PSP. What is the battery life like for the two? which is best for films / Music? any comments welcome
PSP is owns graphics, comms, and action wise. It can also play movies, though they are sold separately like many other things. It being able to connect to servers and stuff makes it great for the competitive gamer. DS stays somewhat classical, but has plenty of games to help with your Eye-Hand coordination, and brain-power. Multiplayer games tend to be more social and just for fun. I own a DS, mostly because most of my branch of the family tree has been around longer, so you get the idea.
I had DS first and then finally saved up and bought a psp...I still wanted to touch so my psp is now gathering dust in some drawer in my room since it's just boring to me, I'd rather play on a console for good graphics and fiddle around on a puzzle game on the DS when I'm on trips. Sony needs to get more intuitiveness combined with their sweet graphics, or I'm probably never gonna buy any more products from them. Right now the best systems for me are these: Wii for intuitive, Xbox360 for graphics, and DS for handheld, if you get anything else you're either dishing out money cause it's fun or you're a hardcore MGS/FF fan. Don't get me wrong they all have their flaws, Xbox360 has the red ring of death, wii hasn't had a good game come out for a while(and none scheduled either, uh oh), and DS... actually ds is kinda perfect, and they keep making it perfect-er, you really can't go wrong with it.
