Check out FFIV's 3D, which is surprisingly very good, on the DS's limited hardware. Graphics doesn't make a game good.

Which is why I said it does great 3D and 2D games. I wasn't talking about graphics alone.

GBA can do 3D, only problem is it can't do anything else at the same time.

    Both have great features.

    NDS - Brilliant online.
    Great Nintendo exclusives.
    Great multiplayer.
    Microphone.
    Dualscreens.
    Touchscreens.
    Easy to hack.
    Clamshell design.

    PSP - Large screen.
    Great graphics.
    Analog stick.
    UMD's.
Great games like God of War and Ratchet and Clank.

I would definitely go with the DS, more solid lineup.

The PSP is easy to hack as well. It only costs about $40 or so depending on what size card you plan on buying.
I would definitely say that UMDs are not a plus, because they are anything but universal, but the capacity on those are nice, much better than the capacity on a NDS cartridge.

The NDS has decent multiplayer, definitely not over the top. It lacks a few things. If it weren't for the numerous disconnects, I'd just be happy with that, but if you play online with two DS's next to each other, you'll see that there is a little bit of a delay between the two systems. I noticed this while playing pokemon. Also, when you are in the meeting room, the guy will randomly move around even if your friend hasn't touched a button.

The NDS's download play feature is nice for those who don't have the game, but the multiplayer on that is extremely limited, like being able to only play as a one or two characters in Mortal Kombat.

The PSP has local play as well, but playing games like Dynasty Warriors doesn't even bother to show the other person playing on your screen, and that the gameplay is made to be a competition, meaning that you'll have to down the same exact enemies your friend does even if he has already killed them. A better feature would've been to synchronize the gameplay so that if your friend kills an enemy, you can actually see him kill that one and you don't have to kill that enemy as well. Most PSP games that are online, usually only have local play, and the ones that do have infrastructure mode usually end up shutting down their servers quickly.

Overall, both systems' online features are unimpressive.

Cartridges can't hold as much.. That's why Square moved mainly onto Playstation.. Local Multiplayer works wonderful, no delays. Download Play is awesome, only need one game to share.

Well, I admit, PSP online is good, but if you play one of those hackable online games like Medal of Honor, Online becomes Hacker Central

NDS because its easier to homebrew although psp has better graphics

    Ummm... this is awkward...

    Well... I got a DS.

Now that I own both systems, I can see that both have their pros and cons.

So, as of today, my official response to the question that is this topic is: both.

I own a nds and my brother owns a psp

I wouldn`t really say either takes the win as it really depends on what you like. If your into games like call of duty, gta (though there is one coming out for the ds), It`s unlikely that you`d be caught dead playing pokemon or megaman, and the opposite for the ds fans. And I`m pretty sure also if your a hardcore guns/violence/faced paced action your not gonna switch to the ds becuase it has great multiplayer features (not that there aren`t a few of those kinds of games for the ds)

I find the ds more kid/teenish games while the psp has more teen/adult games

I`m not saying it`s weird if you play nds when your 35, just that everyone likes something diffrent.

I still hope for the day that will never happen when they form the npp, the nintendo playstation portable. (also I`ve been thinking has microsoft made any handheld video game systems???)

No Microsoft have not made any handheld systems. They've barely made any.

I have both, but I tend to use my DS alot more than my PSP.

Stuck into FFIV right now on DS, I couldn't get into the new FF on the PSP. :-\

Yeah, but then you need to change the firmware, but then you need to get loads of memory cards to even hold the games.

Well, they can play some decent movies, and have decent quality.

But why would you want to do Wi-Fi if they're sitting right next to you?
I've never been disconnected, might just be the games I play.

4 characters actually, but at least you get to play Mortal Kombat with only one card, right? ;)

Local play? Cool. But can you play with one disc?
Also, online would be decent, but apparently there's loads of hackers.

At least we get Wi-Fi though? And for free aswell. =D
    Online is online. =D

I have two memory cards, and one was just for making a magic memory stick. It's called a computer to store the games (or a DVD5, or a DVD9, or an external HDD, a combination of all three and in larger quantities, etc.).
I have two microSD cards simply because I wanted the miniSD converter that one of them came with for my Treo 750 (I do the same exact storage method for my DS games as well).

What I meant by universal was that you can't play UMDs on a DVD player or somehow magically hook it up to your TV. Also, you can't take a full size DVD and play it on your PSP. Hardly universal since it ONLY plays on PSPs.

I'm talking about the small lag that you get when you do DS to DS connections.
If they are right next to each other, they should be synchronized.
And you must have never played Pokemon online because even the BEST players' biggest complaint is the disconnects.

Actually it's closer to 2 characters, scorpion being one of them.
What MK are you talking about?

I don't want to play with one cartridge since it is very limited. Even with TWO cartridges/UMDs, the gameplay is still limited on both handhelds.

Hackers are everywhere. If you can't beat them, join them.

I guess it doesn't matter to you if you have a 2 Mbit connection or 100 Mbit connection.
It's bad enough at the 54 Mbs that my wireless card gets.
Even at 100 Mbs, no matter how perfect of a connection I get, I still get lag and that goes for any system in general.
The speed doesn't really apply to the NDS or the PSP, but I'll be glad to post the link that was already discussed on this forum about how the NDS doesn't support WPA encryption.

Your wireless card does not get anywhere near 54mbit. The box says 54Mbit, but what it doesn't tell you is that is the RAW data rate it is capable of. The actual datarate after accounting for protocol overhead, forward error correction and the like is more like 9mbit under almost perfect conditions. Additionally, it is a half duplex, contended media, meaning the more people connected to it, the slower it is.

I knew my wireless card was a POS (it's a broadcom. Oh noes!), but thanks for creating the definition of a POS card. lol
I usually try to hardwire in but I've said before that the router is all of the way downstairs.
Luckily, when I am at home, I am the only one connected to the network wirelessly.
My actual connection says 54 Mbs, and I get even less than that showing when I am at school (like I am now).
Sometimes it will say 1.0 Mbs or 2, depending on what router I connected to and how many people are on the same one.
I liked it better when my computer hogged up the connection when I was playing Wow. Now I can't even semi-enjoy playing it here.

nothing to do with your specific card, no 802.11g card can get better than 9mbit.

You know that it's still considered wifi when they're right next to you right? There is a PSP cable which comes with the new ones which hook up to your TV to display your PSP on it, but that's pretty much one of the very few options to choose from in that area.

  19. insanecrazy07

    insanecrazy07 Well-Known Member

I'm not sure if that cable works with the fat PSPs, but watching all of my DivX/XviD movies on my PSP while connected to my PS3 is nice.

Yeah, but then it'd just be a pain for whenever you want to change a game, then you will have to hook it up to your computer.

Yeah, but the console would be huge if it could play DVD's. Right? Doesn't one of the newer PSP's have a cord to hook up your PSP to a TV?

I've only gotten the lag a few times in DS Download Play and it was only for a few seconds.
Also, no, I've only ever played Mario Kart, and LoZ online.

    Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3.

That's not a very good mindset to have... haha.

Wouldn't it matter what the other people have aswell? Oh well. =D
