Whooomm...Im wondering...its possible that the earlier psp's had backward problems with the runing of the umds meaning slower loading time....but I still dont think that was a issue back then, because most psp's with the models psp 1001 and 1002 had frame skip problems which prob might of also slowed down the graphics from loading faster......because all psp have frame loss.........not all of them have the equal amount of frame lost.....yes the psp has some huge flaws as well....but thats not to stop someone to play a killer game and make your psp into a killer handheld console. I think its prob in the software....it could of also happened that when your psp is dropped, it can delay the loading time of your psp......after all the moving gears in the psp are what make the psp....
A $30.00 price drop on this system here in the US has drawn my attention toward this handheld. Maybe a little later on this year I might be in the market to purchase one. I like arcade racers, RPGs, shoot'em-ups, and retro. I think it has a lot of racers. I am a Ridge Racer fan, so that might be a first game. The Gradius collection will fill my shoot'em-up twitch.
the load times on PSP games has nothing to do with software, it's the slow access times on the UMD disks. when playing backups off of a memory stick, load times are MUCH faster. unless you compress the ISO a lot, but with a big memory stick, that's not really an issue. it seems a lot of you don't realize the potential of the PSP. yes, the analog stick is a bit funky, but i don't use it much, the d-pad has the same function in most games. it's got a sexy screen, video playback is great, it's got built-in wi-fi so i can check my email on the fly... as for gaming, i use it to play not just PSP games, but NES, SNES, GB, GBA, and (soon) PS1 games. all the emulators are quite polished by now, especially the GBA emu which is full-speed. the SNES emu can be funky at times, but it's just fine for some old school Mario! of course this stuff is only possible when you flash the system with custom firmware, but as long as you're careful, the chances of bricking your system are pretty low. anyway it's worth it to have hundreds of games from all kinds of platforms on a single 4gb memory stick, ready to play anywhere!
By alot of you, who do you have in mind garbanzo...it seems you must be an expert on psp handheld systems ehh...?.......< _ >
I've never really done anything with my PSP, it sorta just sits there not being used, how much are UMDisks? They're probably damn expensive.
I use my GP2X for all of my emulation. I have perfect, SNES. Sega Genesis, NES, Turbo Grafx 16, CPS 2, Mame, Neo Geo, and homebrew. For me, if I end up getting a PSP it will be strickly for the commercial gaming. I would have no interest in using the PSP for any other thing. I presently have 22 handheld video game systems. I like them better than consoles. The PSP is one of several that I do not have yet.
gah, i wasn't insinuating anything... by 'a lot of you' i meant people already posting to this thread. i was just conveying my excitement about the psp, that's all. it's not for everyone, but it meets my needs really quite well. UMDs cost 40-50 bucks for games, a bit less for movies. but hey, like any other software, the games can be cheaper if you'd like them to be that other system you guys are talking about - is that the open source handheld i heard about a while back? i thought about one of those, but the processing power of the psp drew me, i like the fancy new games as much as the old ones...
no, there are no empty/writable UMD disks. UMD games are dumped to ISOs which are stored and run off of a Memory Stick Pro Duo. you can get a 4gb stick now for about $65. the ISOs can be compressed, so you can store 5 to 8 games on a 4gb stick, depending on the game. BUT - to play ISOs from a memory stick, you have to downgrade and/or replace the firmware of the PSP (or put in a mod chip). so if you have a PSP already, you just need a memory stick and a firmware change to play PSP games. The firmware change also allows for homebrew, so you can run emulators for almost any older system, and a lot of other less interesting stuff.
Yeah it is the open source one that I am talking about. I have no idea if anyone else here has one. At the time I got mine I was thinking about a PSP, but I really am heavy into the old games and stuff, more so than the new. It seemed easier at the time to work with than the PSP when running emulation. When you get into PSX emulation or better, the PSP might be more suitable with the extra processing power. I have had my GP2X now for a year and have used it daily. How is the aspect ratio on the PSP when emulating the retro games? Does the games looked stretched or is there black bars on each side?
all the emulators have lots of screen settings, you can pick what you like. obviously the best is when the window touches the top and bottom of the screen and there are black bars on the sides... you can stretch it too, or blow it up and crop it, but it's kind of stupid. it's really only been in the last few months that the PSP really opened up, when someone figured out how to use custom firmware. the original firmware for PSP had vulnurabilities in it, so for a long while everyone used that to play ISOs with software loaders, but it was still really limited, not all games would work, and most newer stuff was out of the question. but now, that original firmware been patched into the newest releases, and the software loaders have been built into it, so everything will run natively, both ISOs and UMDs. the PSX emu is really nice, since it's part of the official firmware. runs wonderfully. and now word is out of a GPS add-on released in Japan. that would be interesting, especially since games will be able to incorporate it into them. not sure how i'll feel running around a big field with my PSP though!
Im impress garbanzo..we should hook up and share some thoughts mate...bout our mods and stuff like that mate......ring me up buddy....move aside seph I got a new buddy...;D j/k
Seph, Try downgrading your PSP and then upgrading to 3.40OE-A or you can try out the new custom firmware by M33. If you like playing the old school games and want to back up your UMDs, you can do that too. You can also play PSX roms. Or if you don't want to play it at all, then you can always give it to me. j/k
I got a PSP. I don't play it, though, because SOMEBODY "lost" my only game, kingdom of paradise. And you cant get new game where I live, let alone PSP games
Is it possible with a 3.70 firmwire or without GTA:LCS? I see that you usually need a 2.00 or the game to do so. Oh and whats the chance of it getting bricked
