Preference on DS cart? m3/r4/n5???? n5=garbage

    roms can only be one of a set number of sizes, if the actual game content is less than the nearest allowed size extra data gets added to pad it out. Trimming removes this extra data.

    like dummy.txt used to fill the empty cd space, putting the data in the fastest read section? "speaking of cd's"

    they use dummy data to fill the void in the cart's so its all nice clean package? no room for issues to develop.

    Yes, that's why ROMs are always in set sizes, 128Mbit, or for MB, 32, 64, 128 etc. Some flashcarts do not like trimmed ROMs however.

    sweet. cyclo was stated as handling them, does it like them though? :-\ also the trimming tools can be glitchy? "did a search here"

    Sort of, as long as you use good working tools, such as TokyoTrim or even R4DS trimmer.
