Online stores are best, they have no retail premises and thus their overheads are lower, usually meaning cheaper prices for consumers. Newegg are good, although recently I have been less than impressed with their delivery times. www.tigerdirect.com is another good one.

    13th september edit:

I now have a machine at my friend's house in the US, specs are:

AMD Athlon XP 1.1Ghz (will overclock to 1.4 when I get a better cooler)
    1GB PC100 SDRAM
ATI FireGL 8800 128MB (Board didn't like the T2, which was better.)
    80GB Hitachi Deskstar hard disk
    Windows 2003 enterprise server.
    DVD burner that sometimes works
    19" Samsung TFT monitor
    Soundblaster Audigy SE

Yay for low budget computing :p

no, for data tapes. you can store 72GB on a tape. (the biggest tape systems can get about 400GB per tape), bad thing is it takes several hours to fill a tape because its a slow technology.

Um, khaislash, why does your Dxdiag show 4.53GHz for your E7300? It shouldn't be adding them together like that (and the false calculation is wrong, too xD)

    Anyways, I'm sporting:

    ASUS M2N4-SLI
    AMD Athlon 64 X2 4400+ (overclocked to 3.23GHz)
    2x 1GB OCZ Gold (5-5-5-12, 1000MHz), 2x 1GB Corsair XMS2 (5-5-4-12, 1000MHz)

I have and I wouldn't touch it with a 50 foot pole. Having said that, Windows 2003 makes XP look slow and unstable, so I of course use 2003 exclusively.

so you finally upgraded your hard drive?!

    my specs changed from before,
    gigabyte ds3r
evga 8600gt [no upgrade until dx11]
    intel core 2 quad 9550 [at 3.7ghz]
    kingston ddr2 8500 [1066] 2gb dual channel
    nzxt whisper
    maxtor 160gb as primary
win xp [sp1a+sp2] sp3 soon when i get the time to download and slipstream the update
corsair 650 watt power supply [this is the single rail with 52 amps]. this power supply is awesome [8 sata, 8 molex, 2 pci express and 8 pin compatable]

i got a new heatsink on monday [12-22-2008] and managed to install it. after an update in the bios to the latest version from gigabyte, i installed all the parts and it booted up. i installed a fresh version of windows and it loaded. i ran benchmark test for about an hour and it loaded fine. i even used intels burn test [5 cycles] to see the heat limit of the heatsink and work load of the processor and it works fine.
i managed to get 3.7ghz, with all cpu features disabled [virtualization, eist, etc....] and everything on tweaks set to auto except the multipliers. got an 870mhz boost or a 31% processor boost. i tried 3.8ghz on auto but it froze on the windows black screen logo boot. to get higher than 3.7ghz, i'll have to set the tweak auto features on manual and make those subtle changes, which i'm not going to do because it's time consuming. i would have loved to get 4ghz.

i need to get a kama bay for the front of the case.
i need to get a new 120mm case fan to replace the included hd case fan [doesn't suck in enough air].
might also want to get two more memory sticks.
might also want to get straight and right-angled sata cables.
might also want to get a front panel fan control bay.
might also want to get a lian li pci cooler [http://www.lian-li.com/v2/en/product/product06.php?pr_index=232&cl_index=2&sc_index=34&ss_index=83]

btw, anyone interested in a rosewill 750watt power supply and an intel e4600 processor?

the computer is miscalculating the CPU speed. Usually this is caused by thermal throttling/power save.
