Let's see... my PC has an AMD Athlon 3700XP+ (2.2GHz single core), 750GB hitachi hard disk, razer copperhead mouse, 22" wide TFT and 19" 4:3 CRT monitors, no graphics card.

Yup, no graphics card. Thing burned out, and I'm poor.

Thanks for the warning, but I have already gotten ahold of those third party drivers. Also, it is technically compatible in the sense that it works, just not nearly as well or with as much support as with XP (I ran Vista for a while on the old computer for a while until it became unbearable with it's performance, I get free/cheap copies of Windows through my school so I experiment with these things sometimes). I just hope it uses the XP midi patch and not the one Creative used in the Vista drivers, I write lots of music through midi and don't really like the sound of the Vista ones in comparison.

everybody talk about XP but what happen with Vista is not good or what. one more, it is possible to upgrade the RAM and if yes , is expensive or is better to buy a new computer. ???

Vista isn't as good as XP, the new SP1 might fix a few problems though. Yes you can upgrade the RAM as long as the motherboard can support more and if it's compatible (DDR etc). I'm getting a extra 1GB of RAM soon. Muahaha :p

Upgrading ram is generally pretty cheap. Go to www.crucial.com and they will make sure you get the right kind of ram for your computer.

RAM is so cheap I'm wondering why I haven't bothered to upgrade. (about the equivalent of $17 for 1GB). I'll be upgrading to 2GB soon.
Oh, does anybody know if the ASUS EEE ram is upgradeable?

My DDR3 finally arrived. A week later than the latest delivery estimate. Gave them a 1 star rating. ::)
Update: I put it in my computer and finally powered it on!

Update: And... my CPU idles at 79 degrees Celsius in the BIOS setup. What the hell. I guess I'll be using the stock cooler for a while.

Update: I used the stock cooler and it's better now. It was because I couldn't reach that damned fourth pushpin behind that mammoth heatsink.

Update: Wow, lots of updates because multi-posting is against the rules. :p I just did 3DMark06 on my new computer, and got 15551 3DMarks. Sweet. Screenshots for proof:

I overclocked my Q6600 to 3 GHz on stock cooling. I'm going to work on lowering the voltages later. Right now it idles at about 40 degrees Celsius and is about 60 degrees Celsius at load. It feels like I could cook eggs on my 8800 GTX's. That area of the case is like a fanless dead zone. I have to do something about that. :-\

:)wow, it's really cheap i think i am going to buy 3 Gb, but what do you recomend me do frist, buy the memory or the video card.

My RAM wasn't cheap cause it was DDR3... Oh well. Is it okay to have DDR3 1600 RAM running at 667 MHz and the processor's FSB at 1333 MHz? Because it seems like I'm wasting a lot of potential for the RAM.

Edit: And wow, turning the vcore (I think it's called) down one notch brought my core temps down about 5-10 degrees Celsius. I'll be pushing on! :p

don't take the vcore down any more, you'll make the system unstable. Also the cpu FSB and the RAM clocks do not have to be related in a linear way. My DDR 400 RAM runs at 17something mhz which translates to DD333 (raw clock is doubled because its DDR, and my board cannot run 4GB of ram at 200mhz clock for some reason) and my processors FSB is 220mhz with an 11x multiplier gives 2.4Ghz core speed (stock is 200FSB 11x mult) at stock voltages. I tried to get it to 245mhz FSB but it wouldn't let me and I think that was the ram didn't like it.

Cafre: get a new video card first if you can.

But turning the RAM clock down let me set timings at 5-4-4-12-2T. 2T is better than 1T, right?

And I found my best stable vcore. It was 1-3 options below 1.225v I think. It could run Prime95 for 2 hours after which I got impatient and started playing with the RAM timings. I also overclocked my video cards.

So I don't need to have a 1:1 FSB : DRAM ratio? Because the Internet says that if the RAM is higher, then there will be more power consumption. I'll just stick with a low memory clock and low timings.

1T is better than 2T, its a latency value. Also no you don't need a 1:1 FSB:DRAM, you just don't want DRAM to be some weird value.

And by weird value you mean...? :p

something that doesn't double into a standard ram speed. The tolerance usually isn't very wide.

What processor? how much video ram? Also system ram speed would be good.

Ok. Serious time. I actually have a shit PC.
Intel pentium 4 2.4 GHz processor
    Crappy 256MB video card
    19inch widescreen moniter
    512mb ram
    80gb hard drive

Those are the real specs. I also have a 500gb external hard drive.

No those are the specs of the PC that I am getting soon. Probably around October-ish, or when I have the money
