loony's correct, you can actually train cats to assist man but the problem is, unlike dogs, cats have never been fully domesticated, what I mean is, even though they live with us, they have a sense of independence, yes they love being around us, yes they love it when we take care of them, but when their urge to up & leave kicks in, there's nothing you can do except maybe to wait if it comes back to you.

But if loyalty is the factor you value, cats are more loyal than dogs. A dog could easily accept a new master if its old one is no longer around to take care of it (except maybe for pitbulls, those are really bad asses), but cats stay loyal to their master, even if the cat lives in a big family where there are a lot of people who can take care of it, a cat would only stay loyal to one particular master.
