^ oh, ok. well you didn't mention any of that in your other post - this clears things up a lot. but anyway, while i think it was a good review, perhaps others have differing opinions on Doom 3 - now that we have had a few comments on this review, is it ok for others to put forward their opinions of the game or should this thread perhaps be locked?
Thanks dark.faerie. Well this is my review and hence my opinion on the game. Anyone is welcome to write their own review on how they liked Doom 3. This thread is basically just to comment on the review but if you don't feel like writing a review and just want to comment on the game itself than please do so by all means. I would love to see what others thought. If you still play and love Doom 1, I really think you would love this game.
nice review grim i never would have thought you could write a review this good(ive known you for a spamming games jokes and random regular. i never really bothered who the author is) and doom 3 is all about aliens right not demons?
off topic i hate scary movies(ones about ghosts. but i still watch em) so the more i hate scary games( its like youre in it. a lot of people recommend f.e.a.r. but i still wont play it) ive seen doom the movie and i havent noticed anything bout demons or devils
Slightly different stories, but yes I believe so. Quake series is your typical alien slaughter game, doom has always been darker. You should try Doom3 and Quake 4, they both use the same game engine, but the environments and the whole game atmosphere are entirely different.
off topic try doom? hell no (anything bout ghosts demons devils scares the shit outta me.) quake? aliens dont scare me much cause I AM ONE and thanks for telling me about doom i wont ever play it ALONE(things are much more UNscary when played with someone else)
in terms of gameplay, quake is pretty much go in with guns blazing, whereas doom is more 'save your ammo and don't forget to look behind you'. Worst flaw with doom3 is the inability to use a weapon and a flashlight at the same time, plus some of the levels are easy to get lost in, and you end up going in circles in the dark.
Gee thanks man. I actually do participate in the other forums and have about four reviews up here. Pay attention buddy But thanks, Doom is actually a very decent game hey. Pretty freaky, but good. I do believe the movie is also about demons.
while not being able to use the flashlight and the weapon simultaneously can provide a challenge ... IT'S A GOOD THING! the game would be too easy otherwise - and being able to use the flashlight with your weapon also takes away from the 'dark' atmosphere of the game (both the literal and metaphoric darkness). and Doom 3 is much better than Quake because of how to play the game - i've watched my boyfriend play Quake and its like "lets just keep shooting and hope we get everyone before they get us" there's no tactic/strategy/caution involved! sure its fun to shoot at things, but unrestricted shooting gets boring after a while - Quake didn't really appeal to me at all. Doom is a game you can REALLY get into - and is much more realistic than Quake could ever be. (I hope i haven't offended anyone who really likes Quake, but seriously. If you ever want to play a REAL game, play Doom 3) ... The End. XD
quake 4 is actually better than doom 3 as the team reused the doom 3 engine and built on it. I would disagree that doom 3 has strategy, although it has rpg-esq leanings. I found the gameplay started rather slowly, whereas in quake 4 you're dropped into the thick of it. These are FPS games so quake 4 is more the kind of thing I want when I want to play an FPS. Doom 3 creates an atmosphere that will take some beating though, even though it is dated now. Roll on Doom 4
FEAR wasn't too bad with that though as well Loonylion. I must admit I never finished the game but it did create a sort of trepidation within at certain points in the game. I must agree, when I play a FPS I want hardcore action and brutality, but I like this style of FPS too. It reminds me of the good old days when Survival Horror games actually had an effect on me, such as Resident Evil 2 (possible due to my age at the time). I look forward to more games that actually make me shake in my boots.
i was about to say "agreed" but then i stopped and thought about it... i mean, could they actually make another doom to evolve the series rather than exterminate it? seriously, would they be able to come up with something that is somewhat original with the typical doom features? can they make sure its not a "here we go again it's another doom..."? I'd love for the answer of all of those to be "yes" but realistically, can they do it? i have a bad feeling that people would lose faith in the Doom series after a crappy attempt at a fourth one... but hey if they make a fourth one there's no doubt i'll get it, i just hope it will be good/worth it - I'd rather an awesome game i have to wait ages for than an average/crappy game i can get now, so if they make Doom 4 i encourage them to take their time with it and not release it until it's perfected. AGREED!
i never said it wouldnt work for other games - i mean look at the pokemon series, still here since like 1996, everyone is going crazy over it still after 12 years (and 12 games lol - unless you also want to include the pinballs and side quests.... but you get what i mean). but it doesnt work for every game. like if they were to make a 3rd Wolfenstein, they'd probably kill it, lol. All i really meant was could they enhance the series rather than hinder it? I love my Doom 3, but if they were to make a Doom 4 that wasn't better, I'd feel quite insulted. So i was merely questioning their ability, since i have seen so many great series go wrong ... i just dont want the great legacy of Doom to be one of them, you know?
I know what you mean dark.faerie but to be honest I still think there is lots of life left in the Doom franchise. I mean Doom 3 came after so many years after the last Doom was released (I think it was Final Doom). And that gave them an opportunity to start a fresh with all the new technology and give it a new look, yet retaining the atmosphere which Doom is really all about. I personally believe that, seeing as its been a while now since Doom 3 came out, that with today's graphics engines and technology, the next Doom will again be unique and will build upon Doom 3. Its obvious the company is biding its time not to disappoint fans and are only releasing Doom games when they feel it is going to be a good time to do so. That's why I think Doom 4 will be awesome and I cannot wait.
I really hope that this is the case, and am looking forward to playing it if it is indeed better than the last addition to the series.
