    Or if you're trying to connect from a connection at a university, you might have to enable SSL to bypass the blocked port(s):

    http://www.mirc.com/ssl.html

    That's what I had to do, anyways. My school blocks the ports.

    Or you could always use Mibbit, that wouldn't be blocked.
