The ESA didn't take the roms down, they "asked" RomUlation to take them down. If RomUlation didn't comply, there would have been legal action. As they've said before, they aren't going to jail for us.

    Wow...

I'm not leaving here (much to the dismay of some people XP) because of the community.

While it's true that romU can't hold a ds game anymore and I know other sites that hold the same, if not, MORE of the other consoles, they don't have the spirit romU does.

Heck, I can dump games, if I'm in a good mood I might start uploading them...but don't pester me.

When I way up if having the ESA onto me or not is worth it (and if I know my links will be used-last time they died :( )

Well that settles it for me, most of the people are staying, so I'll stay too. I just wanted to make sure people were not going to leave before I made my decision.

What people fail to see is all the factors of downloading roms...

If you want to claim that piracy is a significant lost towards developers, you first have to prove that the people who pirate games actually had intentions to buy the game itself. If someone pirates a game but had no intention to buy the game in the first place, then that can't be considered a financial lost.

Piracy is strongly over-dramatized in favor of developers and in some cases, piracy may even lead to financial gains for developers. Games that are popular will spread through internet and local gaming communities. It would have the same effect as a commercial essentially except actually not wasting space on a Tivo. Nintendo has hooked in a number of people due to piracy but they only look at the small marginal factors of lost due to piracy and over-dramatize it in the Nintendo community.

Not to mention, imagine a scenario where Nintendo offered all their games for free. Everyone in the entire world would probably want to buy a Nintendo DS to get their hands on these free DS games. The cost of a Nintendo DS is approximately 5 times (if not more) than the average DS game. With the amount of people buying hardware for the DS (not to mention people being hooked into the Nintendo DS franchise), they would no longer need to host commercials saving them millions and making more profit of at least 3 times as much DS owners. This is just a hypothetical scenario, any number figures had estimation to it.

Once again, piracy is over dramatized to make the developers seem at a lost. No one has proven that yet.

If companies like Nintendo wants to make the big dollars. They need to design a system that costs approximately $200-250 to buy and the expense of $10 a month to keep it activated. This system will not have any such cartridge slots. The catch is every game will be free to download. The more games nintendo makes, the more months they hook people in. All gamestops will be made into "official Nintendo download centers." Nintendo will have the ratio for each game that has been downloaded and split their profits with the respective developers as follows. Gamestops will no longer have walls of broken discs and shit games, but machines that transfer games to your DS (which could also be done at home with a internet connection).

Just the idea of free and unlimited gameplay on the Nintendo DS will rack in millions of new customers. Every year someone keys subscribed is the same as every person buying 3-5 nintendo DS games per year. Because of the millions of new customers, this would create online plays to be intensely fun and more profit in the Nintendo company. Everyone wins. They can make the so many more advanced system that no longer relies on disks or cartridges.

    That would be ideal.

Still, someone would crack the "activation code" sooner or later.

No matter how intuitive and innovative you are, there will always be pirates and hackers.

However, I feel that there would end up being a dramatic reduction in piracy if they proposed a plan like that.

One more thing; If the system's games are large, disc-sized files (like blu-ray size) people would be lucky o get one a month XD

Having all games free is completely insane. Sure, Nintendo would still make money off of DS's, but DEVELOPERS are the ones who make games, and if they don't get money, how the hell are they supposed to survive as a company, or be motivated to even make games at all? And there's no way in hell Nintendo would be able to produce great games like the 3rd party developers do right now. Also, I would sooner cut off my left foot than pay a monthly fee for any console ever. Both those ideas are epic fails.

Piracy actually does cut into the profits of the developers, by the way. Sure, they probably to dramatize it a little, but not in the way you are talking about.

I know how u feel, but the other people just don't do that. The companies won't stop that because only one person is doing the right thing. If the others are stealing money from them, there's no reason to get that mad.I bet you would make the exactly same thing if the game you made with a lot of care were being pirated,hm?

Okay...I have a question about the ESA crap...their only complaint was to take down the downloading of NDS Roms from Romu's servers right?

mmm i dont really think it matters wether u say u will stay or wont stay but...

main reason i was here was the nds roms but i also download my old favorites from PS and GBA like FF7,8,9 or Digimon 3 (yeah im a sucker for games i played when i was a kid) or Golden Sun and GS2 (but still gonna buy the ds version) anyway point is this site isnt only for DS if u cant enjoy the the other games offered here then u really have no buisness complaining since its not like ur paying anything for them.

so ill say Farwell DS section you shall be missed and u will probly come back when the DS 2 (or TS 8)) comes out but for now its goodbye to u

    maybe after the esa removal,
    Nintendo will make more money
and might stop applying AP to all their games.......

  18. ace1o1

    ace1o1 Well-Known Member

    Wrong!
They'll always have AP on their games from now on, and they won't make all that much more money.

Romulation isn't the only site that hosts NDS Roms.
Nintendo will still apply AP to their games.

And maybe even more powerful AP.
