    iriver h series. No DRM (unlike ipod), you aren't forced to use the supplied software to add songs (unlike ipod), said software does not take over your music library (unlike ipod), can use an external battery pack (unlike ipod), has a built in fm radio (unlike ipod), can record voice, line in or fm radio direct to mp3 (unlike ipod), can download pictures from a digital camera via USB (unlike ipod), has Dolby 3D surround and SRS trubass (unlike ipod), can view text files (unlike ipod), has a sleep timer (unlike ipod).

    ipod = ifail.

    who uses the ipod supply software, plus my ipod only needs the two functions music, video not a bunch of other crap ;)

    Everyone who has an iPod. There is no other way to transfer content to an iPod (except some third party tools).

    Still, millions of people everywhere. It's the largest legal music retailer in the world.

    Apple has already removed DRM from 80% of all the songs available on iTunes and by the end of next month this will have increased to 100%. But iPod really does = iFail. Even the audio quality is average when compared to other players...

    that is a funny idea that you put on and i'm laughing at it. it's really great that other non ipod music players have great audio sound. but do you really use your portable music player to listen to music with great sound. it's a stupid idea and thinking. if you really wanted to have great sound listening to music, then shouldn't you buy an audio system with all those high definition features, 5.1 [7.1 or 9.1] and such. the idea of portability is to have what works. even if the ipod has average sound quality, it works because people are using it to use to listen to music just for the time being.

    yes, but why settle for an 'average' quality portable when there are other portables with better sound? Quality is paramount to me because I am deaf.

    you've obviously never tried the others then. My iriver has an awesome interface, and it had a colour screen long before the ipod did.
