You shouldn't skip any single FF game if you really wish to play them all.
Though not truly FF games, the GB ones are worth checking out.

I shouldn't go into full detail as to why because I really don't want to give you any spoilers & ruin your fun, so I'll just say my starting team & let you figure it out for yourself at about two thirds in the game why I say my team is the perfect team to play the game as.

    My team consists of:

    A Warrior, a White Mage, a Black Mage & a Thief.

I hope the Topic Starter sees this post :)

I just remembered another set of Dragon Quest spin off games he might like :)

    They're:

Dragon Quest Monsters 1 & 2 for the Gameboy Color & Dragon Quest Caravan Heart on the GBA. Caravan Heart is in Japanese but there is an English Fan Translation patch available here:

A fun l'il trivia about this game:

The main character in this game is Prince Keifer from the PSOne Dragon Warrior 7 game, making it a Gaidel or spin off of sorts :)

FF7 and all the FF series always bored me because of having 2 wait ur turn thing wich really only works for 2d games

You can turn the battle speed up and turn the ATB to active then theres only about a second wait.

yea but i'd rather have a tales of kinda battle system or something like that or even something like zelda but with level ups...so i guess like zelda 2 but no battle place just fight right there

Then you're better off playing live action RPGs :)

I too am starting to get tired of senseless random battles that's why I often cheat to max out levels &/or use codes that stop random battles from ever happening in the first place.

I'm not getting fed up with the battle system mind you, I just want to advance the story faster as the story is often what I love most in RPGs.

I don't mind random battles, I also don't mind when you can see the enemies like in FFXII. As long as it works with the rest of the game I don't mind.
Same with ATB and live action, Im happy playing either.

Same here, i've played way too many RPG's to get annoyed with Random Battles now, still gotta beat Golden Sun 2 though >.<. I like FF13's way where all the enemies you see on the screen near you highlighted, those are the ones you fight, makes it easier to find out if you wanna fight them or not. Still hate the enemies with Thunder Kick, and the SMT way of MC dying game over, but meh, it's fine lol.

Yeah... what is Golden Sun about?
    what platforms are they on?

Same. In FF Echoes of Time you see the enemies and you can avoid them if you want, shittymon for example has random battles in tall grass when you don't want it.

The First two Golden Sun Games were for the GBA & Dark Dawn is for the DS.

    I don't like X or XII's battle systems.
X because battle was at a standstill, i prefer having to make quick decisions.
XII was especially bad with that forced gambit crap, i wanted full control. Also, having no random encounters didn't make it any less tiresome/boring either, you were trudging over the same areas over and over.
It's the best RPG of its kind on the GBA, i'd recommend playing it over most FF/DQ games.
then don't go in the tall grass or use a repel, problem solved.

Easier said then done. I can't buy repels yet and I MUST go into tall grass.

Hi, I suggest for Zelda: Minish Cap, Dragon Quest: VII, and FFVIII is the best (imo)!

BTW in pokemon you can also use CUT to hack away the tall grass.

I don't have Cut, neither did I know that, thanks.

    But this isn't about pokemanz.

    Dragon Quest Monsters Joker
    Zelda for NDS + GBA
Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles + Ring Of Fates for the DS.
