speaking about fan numbers, I think DQ and FF easily owns the Tales series
but that's just me, I might be wrong

Cause it's still new, wait 5-10 years and the Tales series is going to pick up after FF and DQ

Found a few interesting RPG release dates on a few games according to my new issue of GameInformer

Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days - September 29 (Duh!)

Scribblenauts (yeah its not an RPG, but I know a lot of people are really wanting this) and Mario and Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story - September 15th

    Laevatein Tactics - September 29th

Fighting Fantasy: The Warlock of Firetop Mountain - October 27th

    Infinite Space - Spring 2010

Dragon Quest IX has a nice page, but only release date they are telling is 2010 and it pisses me off looking at it. :p especially after reading this at the end of the article "...for us its the most fun we've had playing a Dragon Quest game in years."

Oh and before anyone asks these are the US release dates and as always subject to change.

Wished I could have gotten better links to put up, but it gives people an ideal of the game so that works.

In the States we see a trend of slow months during the summer and it starts picking up in the fall and 9 out of 10 all the really good stuff comes out during our year end "holidays" (Thanksgiving,Christmas, and New Years)
