But none of them can be minimised to the notification area, open with windows etc

On that note, downgrading is possible if you know where to look for a copy of windows 7. Or you can just wait it out for a little while longer. They are releasing windows 10 as a free upgrade supposedly for windows 8 users, If you want to keep up with it...
