Macs have hardly any decent "modding" value, like the iPhone, very restrictive.

Also, macs are expensive for what they give.. Its pure marketing that apple is using to put up the price. And it doesent even play dvd-roms

Macs DO have really good hardware, that will be useable for ~2 years, but it IS overpriced, I don't have much experience with Dell, but I currently have a DV4 1540us from HP and it's a really good laptop for the money (549$ at staples ((and this is after doing research / price comparison etc etc for 3-4 months))

Dell dont have very good reliability, and apparently their customer service is crap.

    For the people saying Sony...
Sony's are just as bad as Mac in the fact that everything they have is way over-priced

Vaio laptops also have the gorgeous keyboards that are as good, if not better, than those that come with Imacs and are built into Macbooks. Vaios are cheaper, well made and tend to be more powerful than Macbooks. Also; sometimes they come bundled with some decent multimedia software that isn't the usual crappy bloatware.
For the build quality and value for money; i'd say go with a Vaio that has gotten good reviews.

This HP laptop also looks like a good deal

But it's your decision; it's always a good idea to ask around and gather information before making an expensive purchase; kudos ;)

I'm a sophmore in high school and I've had my macbook for 2 years and its an okay laptop. It doesnt have a very good graphics card or very much ram. Plus the hard drive is tiny (150 gb) and apple's customer service is complete shit. It's true that there are hardly any viruses, but if I could get a new laptop it'd be the new alienware one. My dad got one and its fucking amazing. And it can run most pc games at full speed with the settings turned up all the way.

Also its a pretty bulky computer...

Apple has the worst customer service ever. You have to pay just to get them to answer your call. It's pretty fucked up

Everyone..(maybe not everyone, but some people..) is saying that Dell isn't worth it, but every computer me and my family have had are Dells and none of them have broke or messed up, unless it was the fault of the operator...

And I can only recommend a Dell since that's the only brand I've owned..

Have you had it where you open your monitor up and instead of it going to the login screen like normal, it gives this black screen (not off) and you have to manually shut it down and start it back up to log in?

Have you had the shitty little hinges, which are the same style as the original NDS snap on you because of uneven distribution of weight, and wear and tear for a year?

Have you had the power cord completely lose any sort of snugness over the first year and now it needs to be taped to the laptop for it to stay there?

Have you had such a shitty battery that it no longer holds a charge after one year?

And I thought Gateways were horrible...Dell is right there with them. It also would be nice to talk to an English speaking person, rather than some Indian guy "named John."

Seriously, you're better off getting a decent PC (i.e. Sony) with a good video card (GPU preferably), big monitors, and comfy keyboard. Then install OSX86 on it.

Alas, the thing about Macs being more "durable" than PCs are a myth since they mostly outsourced to China, Vietnam, et al. My friend opened up the battery compartment only to find out it was DUCT TAPED on. Good grief.

... speaking from experience in my part of the world (Indonesia), regional brands of laptops often have extremely old and outdated video cards. In the local scene we deem these video cards as "AGP", and newer, better ones as "GPU"s; loosely based on the technology. So there, sorry if it confuses some people
