The closer Macs come to pcs, the greater the chances of viruses coming to Macs. People write viruses for Windows because that's what most people use.

Security through obscurity is the term you're talking about. This is also what turned me off from Apple in general. They can naysay it all they want, but the truth is, the major userbase is Windows, and that's also where the virii are. Having a Unix core doesn't make your OS exempt from virii.

It is much harder to code viruses for unix because of the inherent security in the kernel. The user permissions are much stricter and there is only one user account on the system that is capable of trashing it.

Yes, but it doesn't mean that it's virus free, as some of the "Mac-advocates" would have you believe. End-users of Macs are no smarter than PCs, and if you were stupid enough, it could easily be infected.

that's not a virus, it's a prank, and it's so old my dad installed it on someone's computer before I was born.

There is no dilemma about it, no offence but if you like macs you're Steve Jobs'...actually i don't think i should say it or either my post would get deleted or i would get banned so lets leave at that.

if people really disapprove of the macs, why not someone actually make a virus or something in that relation to prove the insecurity of the mac system? this also applies to linux, why not someone make a linux virus to show the instability of the system.

because linux/mac are very stable and very secure, especially when compared to windows.

Edrick, A mac can get a virus, like the falling desktop thing but people don't bother as Windows are easier to make Viruses for

Not really... People just don't bother circulating Mac viruses.
Perhaps in the future, not now...

They don't bother because they can't.

Of course they can, but viruses for Windows are made so people will get tired from them and eventually stop using Windows, switching to Mac or Linux. Why do people do this? Because they probably don't like Bill, nor do they like the (falling) monopoly he has on OS. My guess would be if Mac/Linux become very popular, people would start making virus.

But I guess I'm wrong, because that way we'll have no OS to work on. And they don't want that...

    DO THEY?

(AN: that's what my dad told me, not sure if it is correct. But I think it makes sense.)

if linux/macos became a lot more prevalent, then more effort would be put into making viruses for those OSes. However, they are much harder to write viuses for due to their security policies and architecture

My guesses are correct then, after all. :p
