This has got to be the funniest definition of sexism i've ever seen:
    http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/sexist

    Main Entry:
    sex·ism
    Pronunciation:
    \ˈsek-ˌsi-zəm\
    Function:
    noun
    Etymology:
sex + -ism (as in racism)
    Date:
    1968

1: prejudice or discrimination based on sex ; especially : discrimination against women
2: behavior, conditions, or attitudes that foster stereotypes of social roles based on sex
    — sex·ist Listen adjective or noun

I'm pretty sure that is sexism right there!

In referrence to what Calvin posted earlier? Him choosing female characters to pwn guys on games isn't exactly prejudicistic nor descriminatory, what's descriminatory is if he openly says he sees women as just objects of lust or are lower than he is.

Nope, I'd moved on, sorry. I still think calvin was on topic though, he was asking about sexism, which is what this topic's about. The point of debate is to answer questions after all.

Ah! I get your point, him asking if he's being sexist is indeed valid, I put more into the question itself then.

There was a movie based on that premise. It was set on the not so far future. An epidemic caused by a neurotoxin wiped out all the men in the world. All that were left were the women, who had to rely on cloning to continue the human species. In their society, genetically altered women (with slongs & all) were crafted known as "poodles" who were bred solely for pleasureable pruposes only, due to the fact that they were sterile because the female scientists could not synthesis the male hormone & sperm cells properly.

Several members of these all female society developed time travel to capture several men, extract their sperm & study it so they can synthesize it for their poodles.

    Scary thought indeed.

But then again, there's an Anime whose story is the exact opposite of this (I can't remember its title though) it was set in the far flung future & this time the women were the ones extinct. In this all men society, the men also relied on cloning, but for some reason they can't create a woman from a man's genetic material, so they replaced the joy of being with women with female looking robots.

And there's also the Macross saga where males & females of an alien species were actually at war with each other :p

"so they replaced the joy of being with women with female looking robots"

that will happen soon...... anime otoku with cybernetic engineering ability will make the perfect fembot which is more perfect that any woman can be...and its tweekable but at the same time they will also came out with a manbot for the woman, and human race will start dying......

like futurama put it "Dont makeout with bots!"

But, robots can't emote. What the hell's the point in using a machine? It's not that different from using your hand!

    True....very true.

Although I myself am guilty of taking my wife for granted. I'm not perfect, why should I expect her to be either? You just have to find a common ground, and stick to it.

Humans don't have very strong emotions when they get older anyway... Plus our brains are just like supercomputers

Emotions are chemical processes, so robot's having feelings is a bit far-fetched as it serves no purpose to give them any. Old people can still have emotions. Our brain can be affected by emotiion, so is very different from any supercomputer.

maybe for humans but not robots. remember that when we build something, especially a robot, it must accompany the basics of robots not human. it'll be the function of chemicals that is translated into machines, so instead of chemicals that may help trigger emotions for humans, it'll be some sort of special eletrical impulse.

it is also more then chemicals, it's also the ethics and other experiences a person encounter. a person who is more biblical then another will take a more biblical approach to problems and solutions as compared to the other.

so in part we do have one thing done but need more understanding of the human brain.

like the idea of flying, you don't simply just look at the bird based on it's physical structure [wings, feathers,etc...], you need to understand how the structure of the bird fly. you've seen those videos of people trying to fly with wings on their arms trying to mimick a bird flying and fail. that is because they didn't analyze the structure of the bird flying.

so again, it is possible with a more understanding of the brain. once we unlock that, we'll do more research on how chemicals and other impulses in our body interact and react with the brain. once that is done, engineers and scientists will work together that will build robots based on the structure of humans into a mechanical form.
