They are as much a luxury, as being able to buy food, when you need it, have running water and a bed to sleep, safe from harm. Most people who live without poverty are dined in luxury, even if they are not rich and without things that OTHER people deem luxury; Say a gaming system, computer, internet access, new phones. We're very privileged people.

not true, water is necessity since we need water to be alive. Necessity is what we need to survive. So food, water and a shelter is necessity, everything else is luxury.

but seeing how most morden life work, electric, and gas can be as consider necessity.

I think what he meant was that having the tap to get the water was a luxury.
Because in third world nations you don't have that.
I think luxury or necessity is not universal, but instead region specific.
What people consider a necessity in one part of the world, might be considered a luxury in others.
Videogames, however,i don't see where they would be a necessity.
So, yeah, i would still go with luxury.

    Not true?

Id like to see you plonked in the middle of Afghanistan or the Amazonian rain forests.Probably half the population dont have these things at hand,so the half that do are living in luxury.

    It's luxurious.
First, we can see the Original game price(Holy, a real madness).
Well, the second we can see the user.
Usually, gamers are quiet rich, or at least can fulfill their needs and save the money a little.

That's my reason why i said it's luxurious.

nice try, i come from a very poor familiy where you need to work for everything. i started working when i was 12. so from my experince Afghanistan and Amazonian rain forests is pretty similar to where i'm from back then... oh ya, we dont have gas back then, we use charcoal to cook, as occasionally short of water for weeks, sometimes months.

also if you read my post more then "not true" you'll know which i'm talking about that isnt true.

My examples are how "simple" things we take for granted are more of a luxury than going from not having a games console to having one.

    I walk 5 feet to a tap to get clean,running water,not 5 miles
    I walk(actually I drive) 300 metres to a shop.
I plonk my rear end on a china toilet, rather than digging a hole.
    I have a power shower,no bucket on a string
    I have a washing machine
    I have gas/electric
I have Sky tv with big telly...

So which one out of that list would you like VERSUS getting a Nintendo DS........

And BTW,with what youve said, people in prison here have a higher standard of living than you do,and people without jobs get free accommodation and £50+ per week.Even "immigrant students" get free houses and £35+,so "Welcome to the UK" LOL

Its a luxury for poor people....but still, even if some have little money, they would choose to play instead of to eat...

Only if they arent native British. Jobseekers allowance is means tested in some shape or form (means not everyone gets the same amount, your situation dictates how much you get, its nowhere near enough to live on, especially if you have a mortgage). and if you dont manage to get a job in 6 months, it stops and you're on your own. Plus they make you fill in a several page form every week to make sure you actually are applying for jobs (which takes time away from searching for jobs). There are people that are supposed to help you find jobs, but they're useless and don't actually care. In my case, I'm on disability benefits so I just get fobbed off the second I walk through the door ('We don't deal with people claiming that benefit, you need to see X organisation' which is equally useless). For all the government's talk about getting people off benefits and into work, and 'No under 25 should be out of work for more than 3 months', they don't half make it difficult. Of course, the fact that Britain is still in recession when the rest of the world isnt, and the goverment are still spending taxpayer's money like water, doesn't help.

Most true. I went onto job seekers, after I got laid off from my job, to tide me over until I found another one. They were of no help, what so ever. I remember going down the offices, with what I applied for, dates on when I was going for an interview, and if I had any luck. And they just process you like a number, and don't even care.

I actually don't remember them helping me find a job, but I found one anyway. The money was also worthless, I got something like £32.00, so I could buy food. Which, I guess isn't all that bad... Eating and all.

For the average person, the dole here is a waste of time. But with everything considered, its the equivelant of working for about £700 a month. If you cant get a job and you live with someone not working, you then go onto income support.
Your benefits increase if you are a Alcoholic,a Junkie,or dont speak English.Disabled people and Pensioners are bottom of the pile in the Governments eyes.

Although I detest Labour,it will be worse when the Tories get back in.....

Labour generally look after the poor, scumbags and Immigrants. The Tories will come down hard on the unemployed and Pensioners/Disabled.
Itll be interesting to see what they do with Immigrants/Junkies/Convicts.They will always have the excuse of trying to tidy up the mess of the previous government.
