Is there too much hand-holding in games these days?

    Is this a problem?

Of course I don't, I'm not a masochistic faggot who'll spend a dozen hours hunting down (for instance) the last feathers in Assassin's Creed 2; I'm quite happy to sit at ~40. I finished that game. Done with it now. I don't give a shit about another cape and a mace. Grinding for 100% completion in a game is painful and robs me of time better used:

    - Playing another game
    - Fucking with people online
    - Watching porn

So screw this achievement and trophy bullshit. I don't play my games like that and if you want to take issue with it you're more than welcome to let me know the lurid details of your completionist fanwank and why it's supposedly better than how I play.

so do you ever complete in anything? you know like watching movie til the end or you just walk out and see another movie? do you read a book to the end or you just stop half way, forget about it and get a new book?

to me, playing a game is just like watching movie, reading a book, having dinner, working a job, solving a problem. i dont stop halfway.

maybe i'm a completionist, maybe i'm just single minded, maybe i'm a patient guy, maybe i'm just stubborn with a rock as head or maybe my mom teach me to always finish what i started or maybe i'm just all of that.

also, i'm not going to say i'm better then you because i'm not. i'm pretty sure i'm not better then anybody on earth.

Yes, because videogames are an entirely different medium of entertainment. You can't compare an interactive experience like a game to a "sit there for two and a half hours and watch" movie. Taking Assassin's Creed 2 as an example again, I finished the plot, dicked around in free play for a couple of hours, and haven't opened it since. For me, that's "finished".

How am I stopping halfway? Collectibles and achievements are extras. They shouldn't comprise a significant part of gameplay. if they do, it's a failure on the developer's part for relying on that mechanic for play value. By finishing the storyline, I've finished the game. The extra stuff is like a book's appendices or a movie's blooper reel - nice for some, but not necessary in the slightest.

Excellent. For a minute there I thought you might have had an issue with people not finishing a game 100%. But whatever floats your boat, dude.

Personal Achievement =/= Everything in the game. For some, just beating the main storyline is achievement enough for people. It just depends on the individual.
