Where did you get that information from? How in this world could they reach 400GB? The game was split into eight blu-rays? That's completely impossible. 4x speed, as Loonylion has said. Back at Portugal here, a blu-ray disc costs 20€ I believe. For the same amount of money, you can get 25 DVDs, not 50. It's quite a big difference. Also, these costs are this big because at the moment only Sony produces the blu-ray discs. Once other brands get to it, the costs are going to lower. And by the time the system is cracked (if it gets cracked), there will be other brands producing blu-rays.
i don't think it's a typo. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blu-ray_Disc "...In December 2008, Pioneer Corporation unveiled a 400 GB Blu-ray disc, which contains 16 data layers, 25 GB each, and will be compatible with current players after a firmware update. A planned launch is in the 2008-2010 time frame for ROM and 2010-2013 for rewritable discs. Ongoing development is under way to create a 1 TB Blu-ray disc as soon as 2013...." the quote above is from the wiki link. now kojima can make a metal gear solid game in any inefficient manner and he'll still say and bitch that the the media is still not enough space.
I see. That's insane, and at the same time a good thing for PS3 games. Although wouldn't the prices of video games go up if they were that big?
lol not really. i got mine for like 200 cuz of points or somethin . really good deal. it came with a game too
I know what you mean, but I've decided to stop pirating everything except DS videogames. It feels a lot better when I actually pay for something.
We're discussing the future of PS3 modding, so... Well, I dunno, but I think we're in topic. When it comes to chipping/modding a console, there's no "right time". It's up to you. I always go for the "What do I get?" equation. Chipping or modding = hours of fun + loads of games + a lot less money spent <=> Chipping or modding = the greater good. I would say there's nothing to lose, so chipping/modding is always welcome here.
wasn't there also a safety thing that sony implemented to their system when the system is opened up or when the system has been altered, it would not start or some sort of malfunction on the machine. so if you can't open it up or you can make hardware alterations, then how would you go about performing mod installation without having possibly cause system problems?
no doubt they would have some sort of protection. The 360 cant be modded and then taken online, doing so causes a brick. Im sure the PS3 will have something similar.
Actually, the hardrive is a slot in the side of the console with a flap over it, so changing it doesn't require the console to be opened.
exactly. when you mod you don't simply just open a small compartment, you need to unscrew all the screws and open it and actually get to touch the internal components.
That's why installing ISO Loader is a much more plausible option, as you don't need to open the console.
You would install it on the HD, no need to open. If it couldn't be done on the PS3 itself, then you'd just remove the HDD, put it on the PC then install it from there.
But you'd need firmware 1.50 or lower as the ISO Loader stands. Plus a huge hard drive for storing games on.
