I have AVG Free edition as my main, with PCMAV to scan any local viruses. More on that note, PCMAV is actually pretty good at eliminating those obscure viruses. It's only 1.1 MB download so google it up and try it :)

i don't think free stuff is ever good although it depends really lol like the roms we have been down loading by the way i use bitdefender and spybot search and destroy over the doctor adware because it always has a problem of updating itself properly

free can be the best, people working to create a good product instead of $$$ they normally have more dedication and devotion than coorperate things, and fix problems faster.

for anti virus... free is good enough. common sense is better, i know i've been hit with a few doozies before. and had to manually remove them because anti virus isn't a cure all.

you're using more than 1 antivirus at same time??? they get pissy with each other if you do that. ??? I ocassionaly use a online scanner, ontop of my avg, or use my sons avast to scan files i can transfer. ontop of my avg.

and to finish everything, a lot of all antivirus, free or not, imo have trouble removing dated virus's sometimes. things they should by now have no trouble with, like (ieantivirus) which is kind of a PITA virus.

i think anti virus programs get pissy at each other because usually when someone says antivirus programs they think of the corporate ones.

and if you think of corporate ones, all they care about is the money so why not program it to get pissy at its competition (free or not).

i have had AVG and a college edition symantec on mine and there hasn't been any problems.
    McAfee and norton suck IMO.

especially McAfee, its a system resource hog and doesn't let you do anything. kind of like vista.

yep, resourse hogs suck. and anti viruses get pissy at each other because they're not deisgned to run more than 1 at a time. rather more than 1 installed.

theorically my version of bitdefender is also "free" lol because its from torrent.i use macafee once but had to move on to bitdefender due to a stupid mistake since i reformat my laptop i have to install the mcafee again and since i conveniently forgotten my password and i cant retrive it using my e mail when i register with mcafee because i have too many e mail lol so i have to get a new anti virus.anti virus like avg can block any registry changes they wont even ask or notify u when a program changes the registry for example when u are installing something, yea its pretty handy but...^_^

Mcafee isn't all that good anymore anyway. its highly prone to reporting false positives.

i would get regular free antivirus. your liscense will expire with paid av's, even if you "find" it? and i dunno about updates. with what they charge they should be monitoring your liscense. nevermind virus loaded antivirus's, seems stupid to me. like aquiring xp or vista... windows will gladly give you a liscense, free, if you can figure out contacting them free. "did this with a reformat of sons pc, with my xp disk" And back on topic, there are too many, well rated, free antiviruses. some updated more than 1 time a week. and auto upgrading.

i have never been a fan of AVG. Always misses trojans and things. Leaves my system not entirely clean. I have since gotten BitDefender and that is by far the best anti-virus software I have used. Its amazing. Cleans everything and keeps it protected.

I've never had any problem with AVG, and if you do your research you'll find loads of people complaining about bitdefender not finding stuff.

Well thats the problem, you would also find people complaining about AVG. I have heard many of those. I suppose you have to weigh the various things you hear and decide for yourself which is better. Judging by my own experiences however, I find BitDefender better for now.
