i confess, I hate to have to tell you that romance is dead.
Take your time. For gingerbread mans sake, just take your time. You obivisouly have the brains and the merit of being down to earth. Remember what falls apart can also fall into place.

When I was sixteen my stepdad would spy on me, go through my dirty washing, say really disgusting things to me and act like a complete pervert.
I repeatedly tried to bring this to the attention of my mother but she didn't believe me.
Eventually, she said that she would have a talk with him about it but he hit her when she brought it up.
He then came to me and started to attack me.
He then got a knife and cut me on my left arm and my leg.
At this point, my neighbour, who had heard the noise and called the police, came in through the door.
My stepdad escaped the house, but was found by the police within four hours.
My mother blamed me for my stepdad going insane and, a few weeks later, kicked me out of the house.
I went to live with my best friend for a few months before renting a flat with my current room-mate.

Now I shall leave.
