    the tomato it self hold the answer to that question.

    but 1st you must know what is a fruit. do you know that? fruit is the result of a successfull pollination, where the flower turn develop into fruit to trick animals (and human) into eating them and discard thier seed somewhere so new plant will growth.

    each fruit have the same build, a protective shell, eatable and often sweet center and seed often found within the fruit.

    so let take a look at tomato. tomato develop from tomato plant's flower.

    here take a look ->
    [IMG]That is tomato plant's flower where tomato come from.

    and now look at tomato's itself, tomato have a protective shell that is green and will turn red with its rip, it also have eatable center (sadly its not so sweet) and inside it have seeds.

    tomato isnt the only fruit that have been commonly used as vegetable. Pepper (red, green, yellow and whatever color they come with), Pumpkin, Eggplant and even cucumber is fruit.

    I say it - Toe-May-Toe.

    It's just a matter of where you were raised and how your parents said it.

    For instance, my grandpa says warsh for wash, but I say wash and so do my parents.

    I pronounce it Toe-may-toe while most other Singaporeans pronounce it Toe-Mah-Toe, and add singlish after it.
