If you're talking about the anime, then I really think they should've followed the manga more closely. The fact that Light lost in the end was pretty obvious, so I wouldn't change that, but in the anime Ryuk kills him while no one is watching, so only L's spirit really sees him die. In the manga, however, he dies in front of everyone, so it truly seems like he "lost".

Not to mention the manga had a small epilogue, too...
