How likely are you to get caught downloading torrents?

likely because servers as rapidshare the speed really sucks don't go more than 50Kbps, very instable(may fall), and have download limit, the torrents I've been downloading I easily get 100Kbps, but the biggest problem is when a torrent doesn't have seeders.

 

Its all depends on how much you download and the time intervals of download and most times what things you download
So if you download lets say for example 50 files a day you are every likely to get caught because it give the impression that you are duplicating and pirateing software to be sold so try to limit it to about 2 or less downloads a day.

 

here in hawaii, everyone is lazy and it's easy to get away

basic facts to keep in mind braddah:

(keep computer load to a minimum if you can: yes close that porn, your slowing processing power)
(download at night: faster)
(more seeders: faster DL)
(keeping about 12 hours between downloads is a good cover: looks like your playing age of conan non-stop)
(careful of peer-protection, they may not work at all: you cant really hide your IP address for if it was, you couldn't link up with the internet. and some may be traps.)
(download a mix of 10% new game 90% pre-2005 games: not only is is smaller in space anything past 2001 is considered "abandoned")
(DO NOT DOWNLOAD NEW GAMES HOT OFF THE PRESS: state and national governments put tracking seeds on some torrents waiting to catch you.)
(get an external HDD: some IP providers may be able to peek inside your computer to see if you have illegit wares, and external HDD prevents trouble by taking files and separating them from the main drive, which drops chances of prosecution by 10-15% )
(delete all history: if it takes constant fragmenting and ghost file deletion, so be it, there are a couple of programs to do this that really work by laying a "blank sheet" of 0's and 1's to cover up the disk.)

and one more thing: (If you can't get good band width: DO NOT DOWNLOAD AT ALL (this can be a trap to prolong you and get you caught, the more time you spend downloading the bigger chance you can get caught) internet companies can constrict flow from 1000kbps to 100 in a flick of a switch.


*yes I got caught once... and I had to jump through hoops to prevent from going to jail, and paying $350,000 in legal charges...
oh when you delete something, it doesn't go away, its space on the drive is just labeled to be overwritten, so you can still get caught, and there are some programs out there can cover it with a useless series of 0's and 1's that can fool prying software.

question about torrents, what does it mean when you are downloading a torrent file and the upload is greater than the one being download?

like I'm downloading a 10gig file and my download is just 7.0G while my upload is 8.0.G...so what does that mean?

 

Those numbers are only estimates and some programs round to either the highest number or the lowest

 

So, i'm seeding what I'm downloading even though its not finished? Ah, cause this is actually the first time it happened to me. Most of my downloads are faster and i seed it afterwards, but my current download is slower but my upload in very fast based on previous observation.

seriously, it will do you no harm if you dont seed but since you are getting something for free, you should help others get the same file for free and fast.

 

I voted unlikely, seeing as how it doesn't really matter if "they" get hold of my IP-address. The ISPs are the only ones who are able to connect an IP-address to a physical address and a name, and they have no obligation to give out that information. I chose my ISP specifically because they delete that kind of information as soon as possible (by Swedish law they have to save it for 6 months, I believe), and they don't give out any customer information without a court order. Even so, seeing as how I run an unprotected network, there's no way to prove that I was the one who uploaded something - it could just as well have been one of my neighbours.
