AMDs generate FAR LESS heat than intel. They also use less electricity. L3 cache makes little difference in most cases. Not neccesarily. FSB is mostly irrelevant on its own. depends what you want the computer for. Some uses benefit more from having more cores than they do from a higher clock speed. again, depends what you want the computer for. Not all uses require high power graphics. very few devices use USB3.0 and not many boards have it. This suggestion is just unnecessarily limiting the choice SATAIII is pretty much a waste of money with mechanical hard disks. Also it unnecessarily limits choice. FSB speed != supported RAM not true, graphics cards are only part of it. nvidia cards have been having issues since the 200 series, I can't recommend them. Not true, both cards must be identical for SLI/crossfire. Hybrid sli/hybrid crossfire is an exception and a waste of effort. 'SLI ready' is meaningless and an excuse to charge more. Like 'certified for windows 7' on a monitor. Antec, Silverstone, OCZ, thermaltake.... you can use any size monitor you wish. Also LED based displays are not very good. doesn't have to be PCI, if you even need a soundcard. Onboard is fine for most people. SP/DIF is also irrelevant unless you're going to plug it into a hifi. If you do want a soundcard, then Asus Xonar. Avoid anything by creative/creative labs. Gamepads are unnecessary. if you want to use a gamepad buy a console. Waste of money. Get Windows 7 Professional x64. The difference between Professional and ultimate is about the price of professional again, and 3 features that less than 1% of the world's population will ever use. Maybe you should stick to things you actually know about, rather than just throwing buzzwords and acronyms around?
^ Not necessarily true. For some games, Gamepads actually work MUCH better than the mouse. Like Audiosurf, for instance.
Agreed, some racing games that require more precise motions and steering require either a gamepad or steering wheel. A keyboard or mouse would not do in these situations. I also prefer dual stick shooters better with dual sticks, who knew. Otherwise, for most other genres of games a mouse and keyboard do a better job in terms of precision and utilization than a gamepad. That being said, it comes down to preference.
I have seen some AMDs with heating problems NOT ALL. Personal Experiance. L3 cache can make difference Take a 256KB L2 cache Celeron and 3MB L3 cache C2 Duo. Cache is the capacity of a processor to store data while processing like a big black-board in your class room. the larger the better. Not the only criteria for performance though. FSB is important ! Try Using a 1033MHz FSB processor on a 400MHz FSB motherboard. Slows you down. FSB used to be bottleneck long time back. Again not the only criteria for performance. I agree. But for comparing 2 similar CPUs it is good, to tell people without giving them a lecture on CPU saying take a Corei3 with more than 2 GHz or a Pentium 4 3 GHz is better. I know Multicore and single core processors difference and their performances. Like older Apps and Games need high freq rather than more cores. Newer Apps and Games take advantage of Multicore. I know that , but all people were suggesting him to go with higher graphics and he didn't replied like Oh I don't play games that much.. a single GFX card may do... So I replied accordingly. Read that I said 2 cards doesn't mean double performance. I know. I also bought a Motherboard recently with only USB 2.0 Just suggesting for a future proof machine Like 5 years later or so. Same as USB 3.0. a Suggestion. Not Recommendation. I said both 1333 && 1667 will work but... It's like having a bottle of 1 litre and to move water from a bucket to another instead of filling full bottle you are filling it halfway or 3/4. If you get my point. Again Instead of telling someone to check compatibility of RAM by type like DDR, DDR2 on motherboard and RAM saying take both with same speed and FSB (exceptions are there). Can you play Crysis on GeForce 5500 FX ? or on TNT Most important part is what we see. Can you play NFS blindfolded ? But you can play even if sound is muted. If you get what I wanted to say by that. Even Pentium D 3.0 GHz CPU can play Crysis if you have correct GFX card. I have GeForce 250 GTS in my PC no problems till date. It's based on MY personal experience. I also know about many issues but never had any problem like that. Your experiences can be different.... Do some research. Try a new SLI combination with different cards. If you are from nVidia then I bow before you. But Identical card limitation has been removed (or so I heard). Ok I agree on that. Just an efficient PSU. Better tell SLI-ready than telling someone specific model of a PSU I don't know. I don't have 2 GFX cards hence I don't need and don't have a perfect Idea of a PSU capable of handling power demand of two GFX cards which can be 700W to 1000W and more. Good Branded PSUs are usually 60-70% efficient. Some upto 80%. But cheap ones are like 30-50% or so. Just a suggestion you can add even more names to this list. I am very lazy so gave onl two names THAT'S ALL. (Typing reply for more than 30 mins now...) ARE YOU JOCKING !! Do you play games on a 640x480 resolution of a CRT monitor with a ATI 6780. If yes then I can't argue more with you.... A 22" monitor with Full HD has resolution of 1920x1080 32bpp @60 Hz. a 15" monitor doesn't support higher resolutions. It's not about size I am saying but the resolution of monitor using size so anyone can remember 22" Full HD instead of 1920x1080 1080p. Just like before. Dedicated Soundcard is far better than Onboard !! Just like onboard IMA G41 (newer) vs GeForce 8800 (older) Some people like the sound effects more... It's for that kind of people. I am not one of them, I use 2.1 Speakers with onboard Audio. And about SP/DIF : It's better than Analouge. So If reader considers buying soundcard for GOOD effects, he must go with Good Speakers having Digital connection (SP/DIF) (Less noise in signal) There are numeruos debates about this. We should have different topic to discuss this. There must be plenty of similar ones in our forums. You must be a fanboy of KB/M I am not telling anyone to try playing CS or Dragon Age .... BUT Have you played a single game with a controller like say NFS Most Wanted, If not buy one and Try Bioshock, Dark Void, Assassins Creed 1-2..... It's a very nice experiance... & I Enjoy That. And don't say KB/M is better for playing Racing games Analogue controls are far superior than KB in that case. AND WHY should I buy a console if I can enjoy PC games more than console ones. A XBox or PS3 is damn expensive than a Controller + Graphic card (depends on choice)+ PSU for ME. You got me here. I agree Just got little exited... BitLocker, 35 languages, ... even XP Mode are useless. Price difference is also considerably high. Sorry for that hmm... Windows 7 x64 Home Premium will do. (I have it.) I am Not throwing buzzwords and I know many things But not all, that's why I keep my eyes and ears open rather than my mouth. You are of other type maybe. I wrote many things here based on MY personal experience not by reading random stuff on some lame sites. You may be unfamiliar to my style of explaining but I did my best in writing that... Try to understand what the person in front of you is saying before saying something. a Mod/Admin should not be talking like that in my option. If you don't like what I say I can't do anything about it.... Post Merge: [time]1291064555[/time] ;D Spent 2 Hours ??? on this topic :-[
I have been using AMDs since the K6-2 and never seen one overheat. Intel, on the other hand... You cant compare them. There's far more difference between them than just cache. its those other differences that the performance is attributable to. L3 cache only has a noticable effect under specific circumstances, it is far from a requirement for good performance I know what cache is, I have 16 years of programming experience and did a hardware design and architecture course at university. I didnt say it wasnt important. I said its not the sole determinator of supported ram speeds, which it isn't. age does not determine whether or not a program supports multicore. Whether or not it needs multiple processors does. I played it on an 8 series geforce. I also played the original half life on a 2MB rage II with full hardware acceleration. I know numerous people who had issues with the 280 and 285 (myself included). One guy I know had his 285 replaced 3 times and they all developed the same fault. There's also a guy on here that got 480s in SLI and he's having similar problems. It hasn't. What you're talking about is using one card for graphics and the other for physics, which does not require identical cards. SLI requires identical cards. The exception is hybrid SLI, which is where you SLI a plug-in graphics card with nvidia integrated graphics. There is no identical requirement here, but its a waste of effort because the integrated graphics drags down the performance of the plug in card so badly that you'd be better off disabling the onboard and running the plug-in as a sole graphics card. good branded are usually 75%+. regardless, 1000W is massive overkill for most computers and costs far more than needs to be spent. Actually I spent most of my life playing games on a 1024x768 14" CRT. Without a doubt. But when onboard HD audio is good enough, why spend money on a sound card? SP/DIF requires an SP/DIF decoder. Few speaker systems have them (excluding the really expensive ones). I use cheap analogue speakers (Aldi 5.1) with a top of the range soundcard and have zero noise issues whatsoever. Being deaf, even tiny amounts of noise annoy me. In my experience, keyboard is better. gamepads suck for racing. The only game I have ever needed a wheel for was GRID. Any other game plays fine with the keyboard. Professional has XP mode. Home premium does not. I am Not throwing buzzwords and I know many things But not all, that's why I keep my eyes and ears open rather than my mouth. You are of other type maybe. Post Merge: [time]1291064555[/time] [/quote] Then I apologise, but it seemed to me you were out of your depth in a lot of the things you said. I have over 16 years experience in this field and that is where most of what I say comes from, the rest from reputable sources.
I could send you my old AMD core though, you would have fun with it overheating. But that was a fabric error though. I changed some time ago and my new one works like a nap.
Is it worth the risk though? The reason I didn't get a 400 series to replace my 200 series was because I had no way of knowing if the issue had been fixed or not.
