deal. i changed over to the one above. it seems to have enough ide's as well. i may be wrong. but like i said. 1 dvd ide and 1 hdd ide. thats what i have right now.

all the inexpensive psu's i've seen always have some "it blew up" reviews, but 5 reviews and how many have been sold? and c'mon my son's pc is completely stock and has been working for almost 10 years. my laptop is centuries old. just dont understand how there can be so many shit parts.

It has one IDE channel, which allows two devices on it. This means both the optical and hard disks will have to be on the same channel, which will have a negative effect on the throughput of the hard disk, however it will be OK for a while, it just wont perform as well as it can.

the PSU brands I listed are much less likely to blow up than the generics.

while i have yet to look at other stores. here is this, it pust me over budget. but i went and look for 401-500W/$25-$50 then looked lowest price and highest/most reviews.

here is the core i think i've settled on. decent reviews and it looks to be covering it's shipping with the $5.00 discount.
    Rosewill RD400-2-DB 400W psu
    Rosewill R230-P-BK case
    ASRock K10N78M board

i've send a letter to newegg asking if they could help work a deal with me. we'll see.

now, are these components going to be good? for a few months at least?
then first thing is a uber fan, followed by i guess a good core -which can still blow up, nature of the beast i suppose- and then ram and then video card.
all in that order and over an undetermined timeline.

that seems OK, I would suggest keeping $5-10 ready in case the mothboard northbridge runs hot and needs a fan on it (just a fan sitting on top of the heatsink, 40-60mm), the geforce 8200 based boards run very hot, IDK about the 8100 based.

i got fans. whoo do i got fans.

err, the damn case is -deactivated- now. worst part of them is inexpensive ones always have bad reviews, that one seemed ok... possibly come back in stock, im doubting it.. damn hope thats the only part.
    "What is a Deactivated Item?

When a product is out-of-stock, it may show as "Deactivated" on the item page. This could mean that the item is no longer available and we are searching for a new supplier or it has reached the end of its product life cycle and will no longer be available at all."

or this provided i can whine and complain and beg enough to at least get shipping cut 1/2. with a cheap case. once everything is good and installed, all theey are is a damn metal box. i will mod the @#$% out of it without regard since after electronics are removed, it's just metal. i'll even put a nice color paint on it if needed, my dell dimension is forest green with almond color falling leaves painted on it. also has no front cover and filters installed. recently been missing side cover as well because of that one stupid fan.

stupid ram is out of stock now... damnit. anyway, here it the manufacturer's link to the mobo.
