You have to be attracted to someone physically to actually be in total love with him/her.

Not being attracted to someone is just good company.

I don't expect anyone that hasn't been in a real requited love situation would understand this. Emotional and physical intricacies are needed in a relationship, you need to be attracted to the person in every way, shape, and form to actually be in love with that person and commit monogamy with them. This includes compatibility (sexually and personality wise).
