    European and 19th century versions of the rhyme suggest that this 'fall' was not a literal falling down, but a curtsy or other form of bending movement that was common in other dramatic singing games.

    And like I said, the song your trying to link to the black death only appeared after the second world war, before that it was "Ashes Ashes, We all fall down."

    Actually "ashes ashes we all fall down" is the recent version "atischoo, atischoo" seems to be the older one. I saw that fact being told on one of those education teaching channels some time ago when we still had cable here at home & yes, loony is correct, the origin of the children's song does refer to the Black death, so does London Bridge was to an actual bridge that used to stand in London.

    London bridge is still standing. Not the original of course, that was destroyed in the great fire, which came immediately after the black death and was in fact what ended it. London's burning is the rhyme that refers to the great fire.
