he might be using Swiftshader 2.0 if the game is able to support it, its an add-on that helps crappy/old video cards run games by bypassing the shaders etc... it helps alot of older games (pre 2005) run on intel graphics cards which otherwise error out upon starting the game.. im surprised more hasnt been done by game companies to support this since it might help them sell more games, but why do that when they can make you buy new hardware haha. i think Swiftshader can be used regardless of what graphics card you have provided the game reads from the files they provide you with.... i know it worked for Pirates of the Carribean on my buddy's laptop.. it was unplayable(black screen then error) until he added it. then it worked flawless graphically. i actually recommend trying it out if you get desparate... just google it im sure someone has made a compatibility list for what games it supports if not.. its basically dxd8.dll and dxd9.dll replacements with an .ini file you can edit.. the tutorials are really good for it too though its not complicated. im currently trying to mod it into Saints Row 2 pc but having a heck of a time finding/editing the right files, plus it works fine on my computer im just trying to get it to work on my buddy's laptop and praying he buys one with a graphics card that isnt intel ...
My old computer was like that. For fps, I played; Serious Sam: The Second encounter (epic game) Unreal Tournament 99 (2003 should run as well) Half Life (The first one) Doom 3 worked.. Counter Strikes' No one Lives Forever 2 < Good Game Star Wars Battlefront 2 will play on a low res Star Wars Jedi Outcast < Good Single Player Campaign Freespace 2 - if you're into flying/space shooting fps's Farcry 1 should run on lowish graphics. kthxbai
