Tetris would not attract 5 year olds unless they're born Tetris lovers.

how bout Nintendogs? Its a hard game at times for little kids, but they will have a lot of fun. Pick out their favorite type of dog, and get that type of nintendog game.

Actually, it does. Atleast in my area, when i go to church, i see like 3 year olds with only one game. The ONE game they love and play all day is Tetris.

I agree with Barathrum, Tetris is one of those games that you pick up & literally in minutes you master it.

And you need to understand with five year olds, playability & fun factor are the key areas they focus on, not so much in visuals or plot. Just give them a game they can understand easily & they'll play it on end. Tetris is one of those games that mastered the art of playability.

I agree with tetris what about a bunch of other oldies like pacman, final fight, bubble bobble, snow bro's, ice climbers, kid Icarus, sim city, where on earth is carmen sandiego, super Mario bro's 3, super Mario world, super metroid, the list is huge just get a bunch of retro titles that are easy to pick up but way hard to put down and you should be right.

Alot of games that you'd think would be suitable for Kids really aren't, like as you mentioned Spiderman and the Transformers games.. the games are very technical (though i've only played them on PS2 i don't know what they are like on DS) and it's a shame because it's usually the kids who are into Spiderman etc.

    I Think it all depends on how used to gaming the kid is, my nephew is 5 and has completed new super mario twice (including the unlockable worlds 3 and 7) and only needs help on the snake game based levels (of which there are only two), though he is addicted all things mario.. as you may realise when you look at his card list;

He has on his card right now:

    Super Mario
Mario and Luigi - Partners in Time
    Super Princess Peach
    Yoshi Island
    Super Mario 64
    Mario Slam Basketball
    Planet Puzzle League
    Nintendogs
    Tony Hawks AW
    Mr.Bean
    Crayola Treasure Adventure
    Ben 10 Alien Force
Ben 10 (Whatever the other one is called)
    Mario Kart
    Sega Tennis
    Mario vs Donkey Kong 2
    Rayman
    Boing Docomodake
    Junior Brain Trainer
    Sonic Rush
    Donkey Kong Jungle Climber
    Diddy Kong racing
    Soul Bubbles
    N+
    Big Bang Mini
    Super Monkey Ball
    Metal Slug 7
Drawn to Life (I've drawn him a mario to use..)
    Lego Batman
Monkey Magic (Saiyuuki Kinkaku Ginkaku no Inbou) (J)

He uses them all and they are all fairly simple kids games that will still be a bit challenging. The only two he gets confused with are Mario 64 and Lego Batman, though i don't think it matters if the kid isn't completing a game just aslong as he enjoys it.

Maybe Pokemon Trozei? It's a puzzle game where you match up the identical Pokemon heads in vertical/horizontal rows of either four or five. P: It actually does a lot of the work itself with chains, and you can play the levels over and over again. Hey, I'm 18, and it keeps me occupied. D; Should work for a five year old. P:
