how many times has this topic been brought up?

blah blah blah girls are gamers to blah blah blah

then you get the mandatory "i know a girl and she kicks my ass at gaming!"

next up comes the lonely boy locked away in his cave bedroom, desperate for any form of female companionship. He posts trivialities such as <3 and :3, hoping that the use of the number three in a non-numerical context will make him more attractive to the opposite sex.

I really have nothing to input, other than "It was really great of Pat to let you have a computer in the kitchen, Natalie."

Now all the girls in this thread must make me a sandwich or risk the back of my hand AND BELIEVE ME IT'S NOT A RISK YOU WANT TO TAKE YADIDIMEAN

And here's one that has had his arse kicked

I was once in a game clan once (Clan T.E.C-the elite connection) and met a few girls, one was incredible in tetris, she was a puzzle genius...

Shame though she only had skill in that area of gaming, every other ds game (mario kart, mp hunters, etc) i avoided 4th place every time because she was playing XD

Bad advertisement, always makes me laugh.

And a girl can do whatever the hell they want, just because some idiot thought putting a few girls in front of an unplugged machine seemed cool at the time doesn't mean they are brainless (how else did I learn my tetris skills-watching my mother play for 3 years!) why if anything women may be better suited to puzzle games and or pointing out our equipment isn't plugged in...(Insert smart arse comment here)

Who wants Sandwiches anyway, I want some ginger beer!

I have been gaming since 8 and still do, nothing wrong in that, I don't care what other people think as long as I am happily mastering one game after another.

And sometimes they can rock at just existing.

Only sometimes, though. It's a shame. The rest should burn in a fiery pit for all eternity XD

It was my older female cousin that taught me my love for video games. She utterly pwns.

Look these days it's almost shameful to be a girl gamer.
Yes I am female, and yes I love video games.

I grew up on games, I may not have been born IN the Atari era but my mom loved, ahem LOVES, games too, her favorites are more of the classic Atari and NES type(though she will play other things sometimes), so I grew up with the Atari too. I also grew up with the NES, SNES, Sega Genesis, Saturn, Dreamcast and so forth. I didn't own all those systems, they were either presents from other family members or we borrowed them from friends or family. I officially owned the Sega Genesis, Saturn, NES, SNES and Dreamcast though. The NES was my uncle's, he gave it to me, the Genesis was a gift from my aunt, the Dreamcast was my brother's and I can't remember who the Saturn was from...

But yeah even when I moved in with my grandma I still continued to game. I have such fond memories of going to a video rental store and renting games for my NES or N64 or PS1. In fact I think one of the NES games I played was some weird bootleg from the rental place, because I know for a fact that Belle's Quest was only on the Genesis, and when I had moved in with grandma my Genesis was still with my family and they could never send it because it got stolen. Like most our game systems did...

But yeah as you can tell I love gaming, and I've been gaming since I was a wee child, I remember fighting over the NES with my sisters, we love Zelda after all...
I never knew back then that not many girls played games, as I have four sisters, a whole bunch of cousins, then there was my mother. We all played video games. I mean why not? They are a great form of entertainment, and a good way to spend time with family.

In fact it wasn't till...High school I'd say that I really started to get flack from it, from OTHER GIRLS. These girls would always mock me, always these same two girl. Saying that games were shit, were for boys, that people who made games were poor and only making so many because they needed the money and I needed to get a boyfriend or something. Then again these two girls were always getting into trouble too so I never paid any mind to them but they always messed with me always.

Other then that it never really bothered me growing up that the only ones I could talk 'nerd' to was other guys. I never thought it weird not many girls were in my buddy group. There was usually at least one or two though so maybe that's why.

But back to the matter on hand, I'm a girl and I'm a gamer. I wouldn't call myself the BEST gamer, I'm not good at all games and I'd rate myself below average to normal most the time. I play for fun not to prove myself. I'm not proud to be a girl gamer, I'm proud to be a gamer.

Now why am I embarrassed to be a girl gamer lately? Well whoever posted that Xbox Motivational Poster just proved it. Those who usually proclaim I'M A GIRL GAMER!!1 are usually...Not good at games and do it for attention or what not. Not to mention from what I understand there are some girl gamers, who get paid and sponsored to do gaming events and what not, and they are usually REALLY SHITTY and only picked not on their ability to game but because they have ovaries.

I can understand the hate of girl gamers then, when there are guys who are better gamers then them. However I will not stand for harassment anywhere, if your a girl and gaming. Not all girls are like that and I've never gone online on my 360 but I've heard lots of disgusting stories of how guys act when there's a girl. Honestly if that's how they act around a girl online maybe they should be fixed or something, I'd hate to see how they act in society. What really upset me was I heard a story about a girl, I can't remember her exact age. But I believe around 12. She was playing on Xbox Live and she got very disgusting comments, and her mother was upset. And she should be.

Now I'm sure I'll get "But 12 year olds shouldn't be playing violent games" since if I recall it was a FPS she was playing. But that goes into my "Violent Games are okay as long as the person can differentiate from fantasy and reality" and "Violent Video Games do not kill people" thing and that's for another topic not this one.

So sophie_elizabeth whether or not if you are good at games, you can play them. It's not about skill, or how fast you can beat a game or whatever. It's about what you want to do, and if you love video games. So don't let others get you down about it. Be it girls or guys. But I do ask you please do not use the title 'Girl Gamer' as a crutch or your gender as a way to complain that guys say you can't play games. It just makes you look a bit silly. If they said it like 'You can't play games your a GIRL' as in you SHOULDN'T play games or because you are a girl you obviously suck at it then you have a right to be angry. But if they just said 'wow you suck at it' without saying ANYTHING about your gender then you really shouldn't get angry. If it upsets you just get better at gaming in general okay?

Well there that's my long ass post about my opinion on the matter. To all those who read it you deserve a cookie or medal or something.

Also my mother is a master of Galga and Pac Man. The woman has skills!
