The fact that it uses BMI in the first place is enough to remove any real reason to be offended since it should be a well-known fact that its horribly inaccurate anyways.

It's a well known fact for adults. How many kids do you know who'd know what BMI even is?

To be honest, it's not even a well known fact for adults...
The view that BMI is inaccurate isn't enforced by the countless
weight loss reality TV shows that the majority of the population probably watch...

Oh woe is her, Oh woe is her...
It's a bloody game, if she didn't spend so much time on games then it wouldn't call her fat,
if that upset her then the real world must make her suicidal, name calling happens in real life,
send her outside and it'll fix 3 problems:
-Games won't tell her she's fat
    - She'll get some exercise
-She won't take name calling so seriously

Did you even read the article?

Not quite sure on how heavy 6 stone is, but if the rest of that is any indication, I highly doubt the little girl was actually fat.

If thats so then why is the family whining? Instead of complaining then do something else, my post was biased in some points but not all

six stone, read before you post, or you risk making yourself look foolish

That's because this game carries no warnings that it could cause harm to your child's psychological state. Calling someone fat, especially a little girl is a serious problem as too many take it to heart, and it's not because they're idiots, or social retards, it can come from shaky self confidence or shyness.

38.10 kilograms is about 84 pounds.

    Besides 50*6 = 300.

Weight of a girl is 300 pounds? Then clearly she is fat, but thats not the case.

Just took the time to look it up and its actually 14 pounds, although measuring in stones seems to be way outdated IMO. Thanks for the laugh though.
Do us all a favor and stop posting in this topic if all you're going to do is post stupid shit like this.

Just want to introduce the possibility that Wii Fit's BMI test may be calculated wrong..
Haven't done too much research into it yet, but
according to this BMI calculator: http://www.bcm.edu/cnrc/bodycomp/bmiz2.html

"A 144-cm tall, 38-kg, 10-year-old girl has a body mass index (BMI) of 18.3, which is at the 71st percentile for age. This suggests that this girl is at a healthy weight. A healthy weight range for this particular girl would be from about 31-kg to 41-kg."

and according to this one: http://www.nhlbisupport.com/bmi/
    The girl scores 18.2
    "Normal weight = 18.5 - 24.9"
So according to this one, the girl is underweight  ???

Just had a quick look at a few more bmi calculators,
and not one of them indicates that a 4ft 9, 84 pound, 10 year old girl is even near overweight...
Why does Wii Fit come to that conclusion??

Presumably, as someone stated previously, the data wii fit uses is from a different region where average weights are different.

    Does that make it acceptable??

"BMI is used differently for children. It is calculated the same way as for adults, but then compared to typical values for other children of the same age.
Instead of set thresholds for underweight and overweight, then, the BMI percentile allows comparison with children of the same sex and age.
A BMI that is less than the 5th percentile is considered underweight and above the 95th percentile is considered overweight.
Children with a BMI between the 85th and 95th percentile are considered to be at risk of becoming overweight."

Even taking into account international variations,
I don't think the results would vary enough to
to declare the child (71st percentile) overweight...

    Source: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Body_mass_index#BMI-for-age
and for those of you critical of Wikipedia,
    here's the original source: http://www.cdc.gov/nccdphp/dnpa/healthyweight/assessing/bmi/childrens_BMI/about_childrens_BMI.htm
a perfectly trustworthy one I'm sure you'll agree...

in that case wii fit must be using adult values that have been extrapolated back to kids.

It was stupid because you were using false facts you'd pulled out of the air to prove your case, the article was talking about a 6 stone girl, and you were making reference to a 16 stone girl for apparently no reason.
