I would not recommend buying a card with preloaded games; First, it costs more, second, many may not work, and third 90% of the games will not be games anyone likes to play anyway.

Buy acekards if you only want NDS games
Since they are DSLs (Lite) They have a GBA slot, for which you may want to buy an EZ 3in1 for GBA games. (acekards work natively)
I do not recommend supercards for Lites.

If money is tight, you can also go for original R4s.

Take a little time and place the games you would like your children to play on the cards.
There are many threads on this site that will link you to plenty of games very easily.

    In short- 3 acekards.

As to where to buy, most recommend shoptemp.com

Thank you for your help, this is just a little overwhelming trying to figure this stuff out as a newbie. My kids are 11, 9 & 8, and my oldest is obsessed with sonic & pokemon...now does it matter which card for wifi or can I still do wifi, (they like youtube sonic videos) with one of these flash carts? So what the card recommended work with wife, music & video as well? Thanks for the help :)

SuperCard DSTWO works with your wife, ebooks, video's and music, along with GBA and SNES games, and of course NDS games :)

I went out of my way and made some updates to the top of the guide due to it being a terribly out of date warning concerning the 3DS. I also added a note if the best carts to buy were 3DS compatible, and added the CycloDSi.

It is still kind of dated in the feel of everything, but that is all I'm willing to do at the moment.

Most R4i carts saying RTS fail, except those from websites with known authentic R4 carts

For your interest, you say to avoid the R4i Gold card, but it's the best R4 clone out there, with official wood support.

    You're right. And they support 3DS 2.1.0-3(E/U/J). I use the R4iGold from R4iDS.cn

I'm well aware of this already. I'll update it, you know, at some point. The next couple of months aren't going to be good for that, and as it stands now, everything that is recommended, is fine.

R4 III isnt much of a bad r4 clone since i update waio 1.15 to 1.29 (wood all in one for clones)

WAIO is freaking terrible. There is no way a cart is getting labeled anywhere near fine while it is using that horrible version of Wood.

Haha, I think I'm obligated to give it a small update now. I have a long weekend coming up, so I'll work on it some then.

I would definitely recommend the DSTwo for one reason here. The Supercard DSTwo is the most update friendly card that I'm aware of, so goofy mistakes like updating the 3DS before updating the cart shouldn't matter. That is the key factor when it comes to kids, really. Every cart can have multi-media capabilities and wifi, making those factors unimportant when making a purchasing decision.

The DSTwo should support more video file types than other carts that have to use moonshell, but I can't make any comments on that personally.

Just thought i would suggest that you add Ex4I to that list
    http://ex4ds.com/ - official site
supports all ds dsi's and according to the website a update for 3DS 2.1.0-4 firmware
its a great card that supports Nds latest game til 5869 and Gba games as well as lots of movie formats without conversion
it is also still being updated (even if not very often)

    AK3? Nup. It's a fake.

Avoid any card that says it can play 3DS roms.

    Get a supercard. Simple.
