It exists because we all have different opinions about different matters. Yes, your opinion is the correct one but not all people would agree. Also this thread originally discussed more of how people felt about it and the surrounding 'controversy' so to speak rather than treatment.

I'd find it strange if anyone was opposed female gamers. It seems all the prepubescent boys and horny guys on Xbox Live seem to be all for it (thus the reason why I don't talk online).

Xelados, you're far from being a noob or anything in a derogatory sense, you're probably one of the smartest users I've seen on this forum.

I don't expect anything from my man besides that his hobby doesn't take over his life (which there's no problem with at all). Hobbies are good and all to a certain point, other wise there's responsibilities, more so when there's a house, a job, kids and a wife to contend with.

As to what I think of gamer guys, most that I've met in real life who've been playing there games since the NES or SNES. They're nice, I haven't met one that isn't nice. I don't think the only reason why they're nice to me is because I'm a girl, because they're genuinely nice to everyone.

(Yeah I used nice a lot. I'm too tired to come up with something eles.)

haha yeah its kinda different when there are thousands of them and they're all 30 and have the number of holes on the buster sword wrong (my pet peeve)
and all these rants are starting to make us look bad....

Natewlie: I'm flattered (and thankful) that you think that highly of me. n_n; I guess it's as the old Buddhist adage goes: "Be the change that you seek in this world." I like talking to mentally stimulating people (and bullshitting about games), so I try to contribute to the interesting topics and talk about games whenever the chance presents itself.

I agree with ded, that gamer girls shouldn't be treated differently, but there's that nagging little inconvenience we deal with called "reality". And the reality is that guys and girls are treated differently in a wild variety of environments. It's weird, but understandable at the same time. As gaming is becoming more social, many of our existing social practices are carrying over to gaming. Some people have different standards of conversation or have different expectations of guys and girls. Note that I said "different", not better or worse. :) Most of the time though, it's a crock and leftovers from less socially refined days. Except in special circumstances, I think most people should seek to treat both sexes equally. Obviously that's not going to happen overnight, but hey; if we get more gamer girls in on things that end up just as dedicated as some of us guys, we might see some pleasant changes in gaming, like more girls who game! Haha.

    Lucky Star's Konata is a prime example of a girl I wouldn't mind hanging out with, hahaha. Pardon the geekiness; I just finished watching it this morning. I'm in love with the OP. @_@;

I'm indifferent to cosplay for the most part, unless it's a guy crossplaying. That's just wrong, lmao. I'm all for well-made costumes and appropriate cosplaying. I've seen some really good stuff out there, and it makes for a good creative outlet. The same people who cosplay today could end up being costume designers or character designers for games, movies, anime, and more. So I wouldn't be so quick to judge'em.

For the record, I've never cosplayed but have wanted to. Particularly Luigi. I'd make a good Luigi, no?

PROOF: I GIMPed a picture of mine months and months ago for the lulz:

dude i didn't say i thought it was wrong to cosplay i thought it looked hideous and i certainly dont think its worse for girls to cosplay i generally want to cry when te guys do it either way as i said before people enjoy it and its something i have to accept. but while im quoting myself i also said "all these rants are starting to make us look bad...." its starting to get really uncool having to read all these essays... cool pic btw it made me lol

I don't mind cosplaying, while it's hobby, I get it, I'm not into it though. At any point I'm not going to dress like Ivy from Soul Calibur or anything. It's worth a shot on Halloween I guess (no, not Ivy, that's too skimpy for me).

They aren't as much rants as, you know actual discussion. There hasn't been a lot of intelligence on the Debate board as of late and this is the most discussion I've seen on this forum. And you're how old, 16? You're probably in grade 11, which means you'll have to write so many essays. BUT I DIGRESS.

THAT'S A FAKE MOUSTACHE? HOLY CRAP. I'll say more when I'm not overtired.

The thing I hate most about being a girl and being into games is that we have these sort of 'Game girl groups', you know like Fragdolls. While they can be a sort of 'empowerment' I guess, they're also a hindrance. I mean, I get enough slack on Xbox Live about being a girl, I don't want to be somewhat isolated because of the fact that I'm a girl who likes to play games. (RUN ON SENTENCE)

And I don't only play with girls, I have a few Xbox Live friends who are girls (definitely the minority) but I usually have an Xbox Live Party set up with a couple of guys and we play Red Faction or whatever mind numbing multiplayer shooter that's popular at the time. Girl gamers don't only interact with other girl gamers. Although I'd sometimes like to only talk to girls because half of Xbox Live is the kind of demographic to instantly fall in love with whatever girl goes online and jizz their pants and want to shower you with presents and love.

    Ehh, no thanks.

yes i am 16 but have just finished the 11th grade so i don't need to be doing any essays im not willing to do, thats why its called compulsory education, also i have no idea how intelligent the debates have been on romU because i try to steer clear of them but setting thats aside seeing as it is off topic i do feel that alot thats being posted about rant-ish, it seems like alot of people are sour about something thats linked to girl gaming i personally see it as a big deal.

of course its not fair for gamers to be treated wrong because they are girls but it happens the majority of us feel that all gamer should be treated the same so if we think that way then we'll have a nice ol' gaming community. i have no good idea how girl gamers are treated on online games but that because i rarely if not never play them. if eccentric gamers bother each other wouldn't it just be easier to kick them? i also think it would be fair not to bother talking to people on xbox live unless they are you friends (thats what my mate does) if not put up with it and enjoy the game im sure thats what everybody wants.

and for one last time cosplay is fine im just not a fan.

Can't believe I didn't see this post. You're lucky, man. Some of us would love to find girls like that. Gamers are a rare sight where I live, male OR female!

buuured: Ah, that clears things up. I apologize for misinterpreting your opinion on cosplaying. As for the long posts, they can get out of hand, but sometimes you just feel compelled to write a little more, so people better understand where you're coming from. Y'know? Trust me, if it was some essay contest I'd never have contributed to the topic, lol. I do enjoy writing though, so maybe my average "few paragraphs" is your "essay". Just like I consider a long book to be around 400 pages, when there are people out there that love reading 1000+ page monsters. Funny how that works...

Natewlie: Yeah, I just edited the picture in GIMP. I believe I used the dropper on the color of my hair and just used my tablet and made a million strokes with the stylus to get that look. It wasn't all that hard, really. Just a little effort. :)

I also think that girls grouping up just because they're girls is a bit weird. A lot of gamer girls I've met have complained about being isolated or singled out for being a girl, so their natural response is to further isolate themselves? I don't get it. Do guys start nursing clubs or something because they're guys in the nursing field? lol... It's not very empowering either, I wouldn't guess. I mean sure, finding other girls in a mostly guy-oriented hobby is nice, but that trend is waning by the day. Gamers will pretty soon be about 50-50 between the sexes. These girl groups seem to go against what the gamer girls want: equality. If they group up like that, it's just further deepening the gap between guys and girls.

This shines light on an interesting double standard, too: if there were any "guys-only" groups, in gaming or practically any other field, it'd be considered sexist.

    I'm a girl, and well..sure, I'll say I'm a gamer.
However, I really get peeved when some girl says "I'm a gamer" but they only claim to be a gamer because:
    a) it makes them seem different than barbie girls and thus more appealing to boys who are also gamers
    b) they play occasional games but really have no kind of skill to even keep up with the game, sometimes they don't even understand what they are playing games for, and most fake gamers don't play games unless it involves Cloud Strife or Sora.

My friend says she's a gamer because she think's that's the only thing that attracts people like her boyfriend. But she has hardly played games in her life of 16 years. She plays maybe 30 minutes of Halo just to bond with the boys, and this is per month. I go through games like crazy. I also watched her attempt to play Crisis Core on the PSP. It took her 5 minutes to decide she needed to use cure when her HP was down to 23 and by the time she figured out how to even use Cure, Zack Fair was already screaming and rolling on the ground in agony. truth not guaranteed.
And don't even try to introduce her to MMO's, waiting for her to just do something is somewhat excruciating.

I know this is a bit of a rant post but really, wether you're a girl or a guy, don't pretend to be a gamer just so that you can build some sort of reputation of yourself. =_=

Random Edit: And I'm not saying I'm better than her just because she's not really a gamer. Infact I'm quite jealous, she got her Learners before me and my crush became her boyfriend. -twitch-.
Anyyyyyywayyyy I'll put you all out of your misery and shut up right after this dot.

well at least i can say you raised an important point more people wanted to hear the girls side of things and no one has said anything like that yet as fellow gamer i can say i know what you mean i know people who do that but sadly they are friends of mine so i try not to get annoyed and wait for them to get bored of the game they're not enjoying so i'll say that and about the random edit......ouch that sounds like something form FML.

    DSi ~ 50+ games on my SuperCard DSONEi ~ 10 hours study a week....30 hours game play :p ~ I dunno.....does that make me a "female gamer" ~

Used to play Dota and CS....but got a laptop recently and don't want my laptop to work so hard ~

And then there's the Wii, PS and what not :p ~

I guess it's normal these days to see girls playing games ~ You didn't expect Nintendo to release a PINK DS targeted at guys did you :p ~

Asche, I totally get you. It's the worst when you're on the receiving end of that "I'm a gamer because it attracts the guys", then she pulls a fast one and reveals that she only likes FF7AC and Guitar Hero, like my ex.

She even said Mega Man and 2-D games in general suck! ;_____; (That should've been a hint in hindsight. :X)

Not a rant post if you ask me, and you're totally right! I can't stand people who are like that! If you're new to gaming but want to get better, then just tell people, right? And if you're not a gamer, don't pretend to be one and ruin what little positive rep we gamers have! What's so hard about just being true to yourself?

I use "you" in a general sense, of course. It wasn't aimed at you, Asche!

Jaspieleung: I'd say any girl who owns a homebrew device and knows how to use it is fluent enough to call herself a gamer! :p

omg u shud charge ur lazer to over 9000 and FIRE UR MUDKIPS of doom! lololol that's so random, amirite!?

I'm sorry, I just had to. Please don't mod me. :< Memes have their place, but it's awful when someone misuses them.

Speaking of memes... I got bored about a week or two ago...

    >_>;

Enough offtopicness, I guess. That fakeness irks me, too. I can't stand it when someone is like "Oh yeah I'm totally a gamer!" and then when you start asking them what genres, series, or systems they like and/or own they get all "@_@ wtf r u talkin about?" I just don't get it. It's like they want the good points of being a gamer, but don't want to be labeled a nerd or something. Lulz.

Databank, he means that he'll make a girl character in an online game for the sole purpose of getting free items because he's a "girl". It works surprisingly well. I've done it before, too.

That's why I use the old meme: GIRL = Guy In Real Life. :p
