No man it's brazilian version and the original is Belgium, FN is a military industry from there.
It's better than Avtomatik Kalashnikov 1947 (ak-47), CAR-15, M16e1/a1/a2, and the carbines M-4 due that it uses a larger caliber, 7.62mm x 51mm, instead of 7.62mm x 31mm of the AK-47, and the americans that uses 5.56mm x 45mm. The FN FAl didn't get jammed easily as these ones mentioned. And due the size of the bullet, it go in a larger distance than the others assault rifles.
Other good gun is the German one called Heckler & Koch VP70:

With the stock it can do burt fire in a 3 rounds at time. Can hold 18 bullets 9mm x 19mm parabellum rounds in the clip.
