Do you fully agree with your religion?

I agree with the "If ___ told you to jump off of a bridge, would you?" comment.

That's exactly my reasoning for questioning religion, and every other matter where that applies too. Blindly following something is not believing at all. I believe that ignorance was the perfect word for it. And the fact that you said shows/movies are great when they discuss religion is absolutely true.

For instance in some movies there will be a cult, where all the followers will think the same thing, even though it is vastly absurd, almost seen as insanity. But they still believe it, they have no proof behind it, so how do they know if it is true. They can only see, what they deem, as their light on the situation.

People should just broaden their mind and start asking better questions.

How did your life get better, if you don't mind me asking? You don't have to answer that, I can understand that it was a personal question. :)

Awesome movie to watch about religion: Dogma, if you can get past the cheesy storyline, it's damn good. One of the few movies I think about regularly, it's something that makes you think, that and the awesome cast makes it better. Also Religulous, hilarious, awesome documentary, I doubt a lot of people have seen this one.

Also a good TV show about Religion is Moral Orel, Season 1 and 2 are a comedic affair, but it's pretty funny what Orel gets himself into through the teachings and misleadings from the bible (like not wasting his seed, so he puts his sperm in a turkey baster and impregnates a woman everytime). Season 3 is a whole other beast, Season 3 is where Orel is the only one questioning everything and secondary characters have a large elaborate back story.

I will note those down :)
Thanks for notifying me of them, I was looking for a suggestion for something to watch, but these have another reason behind them which will make them more interesting. :)

"I would never die for my beliefs because I could be wrong." Bertrand Russell said that and I agree with him. It's never good to just blindly accept everything; you have to question things before accepting them, especially religion.

I'm agnostic so the question doesn't really apply to me... but I was raised in a Roman Catholic household and have been studying in Catholic schools all my life. I used to believe in religion until my third year in high school. I'm open to the idea of there being a higher power, but I'm not fully convinced and I don't feel like organized religion is meant for me. Too many lives have been hurt by religious bigotry.

That's pretty cool. I was raised in a Christian school for two years, and I always felt that they pushed their beliefs onto me.

I can understand the conflicts that would occur in a multireligious household. There is such a thing called being accepting of other people and their beliefs, but quite a lot of people in this day and age have forgotten about that. Which I find, in actual fact, quite upsetting.

People of different genders are entitled to their own opinion as well I believe, but I notice that a lot of males take advantage of females and their views.

I hate the thought of women being monopolized due to stupid little factors. I hate the thought of them being taken advantage of altogether, even though it is probably inevitable. We all have equal rights..

One of the missions of pedophilic religious leaders is to monopolize women.

    I can say: wat.

I just watched Religulous again (second time since I bought it) it fucking blows my mind. Yes, it warranted fucking. Essentially, the film starts out light hearted and with jokes and questioning religion. Near the end Bill Maher talks about how religion is the death of us as a race, he talks about US Nationalism vs Religion ("George W Bush prayed a lot for the soldiers in Iraq without doing or knowing too much about the war"), and he talks about muslims. Like, wow. I totally recommend anyone who's even a little open minded to watch the film, it's damn good and it's funny as hell.

One of the best bits is when Bill Maher is talking about Santa Claus and God. He said something along the lines of, Yeah you don't believe that a man who can deliver presents to every house in the world in a night, but you'll believe in someone who can hear and understand every one praying to him at once.

Wow,you are lucky to live in States but if you live in my place you might be stoned to death.
Only woman will get that kind of punishment...what i don't get is they still believe that they deserve it just because some fairytales say so That's why i don't really like it when women accept religion blindly...but they are easily manipulated by those pedophiles for the promise of heaven.

I don't live in the States.

I'm sorry allkratos, but I seriously don't understand a single thing you're trying to say to me. I don't know where you live but okay. The only religion I can think of that oppresses women is islam and muslim, they still hold that kind of power against women, even now. As opposed to Christianity or Catholicism or many others, women are now (mostly) treated equal in Western societies.

It seems to me you have some sort of grudge against women, or you have this insane generalization that women like to dream of many things. Just so you know, it's not only women, who have dreams, who are brainwashed by their government or their religion, men are just as prone to it as women, it's just that we have never seen any sort of example of the opposite happening. Men of the islam/muslim faith are brainwashed to think that they are superior than women, just like how women think they are as well (I highly doubt everyone in that faith is like that, but the sake for an example). Both parties are entirely guilty, it's not just the women.

In fact, the posts that have you singling out women completely nullifies any point or integrity that you have when you debate, as it's such an insane generalization based on essentially what your (I'm assuming) culture that applies to very little outside of that.

Those same pedophiles are just as manipulated as the women, they think what they're doing is right, they think this will make them able to live in paradise when they die. What's the difference, really?

It's pretty funny, but i remember Bill made a few erroneous claims in the film.
Basically just repeating the usual Jesus Myther claims.
All in all though, it's pretty good.
Have you or Natewlie ever seen The Invention of Lying with Ricky Gervais?
I watched it a couple days ago, pretty good movie, IMO, with some food for thought on this subject.
    Edit:
Another film (documentary) i just remembered about this subject:
    Jesus Camp!
Anyone seen that freak fest yet?
    It is disturbing...
