Do moderators get paid?

    That is British my friend. BTW, I forget the space... it is mother tongue :p
    In American English it is native language.

    My English is just a mix of British, Americian and a whole sh*t to ruin it all.

    oh cool what are as many British-English words you can think of? I would like to know just out of curiosity. also, are there words in American-English that you don't use? (by you i mean people in Britain not just you specifically)

    yeah the pronunciation isnt different but the spelling is.

    one difference in pronunciation that I like teasing patton about is router.

    british english:

    root-er, used to connect to the internet, or routing (root-ing) between computer networks. Route as in roads is also pronounced this way.
    ro-ow-ter, power tool used for shaping wood

    american english:

    ro-ow-ter is used for both the above.

    so every time patton asks for a router I offer him a black & decker. It's even more irritating since most of the time he uses british english, but not for that word.

    grammar is also significantly different, and some words that dont exist in british english are gotten (in british english its have got) and a few others I cant recall right now.

    I was a moderator for a game creation site called playcrafter. It was an in-browser flash-based site where people could drag and drop pieces to make their own game. Obviously a ton of kids flocked the site.

    Dear gawd it was awful. I had very limited powers, which included banning, deleting, and picking games for an exclusive showcase. There was very little communication between the moderators and the admins. Every time I entered the chat, several people asked me to play their crappy games. Other times, a ton of people asked me to ban a certain user, and since I had no access to the chatlogs, I wasn't allowed to ban anyone. There was also a lot of abuse in power. One guy decided to ban a ton of users for no reason.

    The job started getting boring and tedious so me and a few other people decided to create a villain for the site. We threatened taking over the site and immediately received death threats, declarations of war, and non-stop harassment. I could make the chat erupt just by typing Hello. This went on for a couple of months and we banned quite a few people. I must add that the villain was a bird and threatened mind control. People would swear on our walls and spam the shit out of it.

    That's a pretty hilarious story, actually.

    Was a mod a few times, honestly can't imagine why. Usually small forums that died quickly, but one of which was actually active last I saw. I don't miss it: the site was full of pretty dense folks.

    As an ex G-mod of G-M, I didn't get "paid" per se, but I did get a few benefits from being in CD21's circle. Free hosting when I needed it was the big perk I got from time to time.

    lol, I remember Gamesmaster. It always had frequent text errors in almost every issue. I bought one a little while ago and almost all the magazine staff has changed from the ones that I remember :p
