Actually they didn't.It is possible that the ancient Hebrews knew that the world was round It says in the bible . Even the ancient greeks knew it wasn't flat infact they thought it was more of a circular spiral shape. It wasn't really until the 1500s until well educated people knew it was wrong but until then they didn't think it was flat
A circle is not a sphere. The Bible is pretty clear in its belief of a flat earth. Just like all the other cultures around Israel at the time believed in it also. Now the greeks, that is a different story. Those chaps were smart. Since the 6th century BCE they had postulated a spherical Earth, and by the 3rd century BCE it was a known fact to them. Jesus on the other hand, could still see the entire world from a mountain, in the 1st century CE:
I never stated that they always need it was round. I just said that they never really thought it was flat
It's the other way around, actually. They believed it had a round shape. But they did think it was flat. Here is a model of what they believed the Earth looked like:
Yes they are extra-dimensional beings and it is Reagan's fault we have yet to become diplomatic with their species'.
I will say this: if Earth is the only planet in the universe with intelligent (we are intelligent, right?) life...then there is no doubt that a God of some sort exists, and there is a meaning to life.
If the age of the universe were condensed to the span of a Gregorian calendar, the history of our species would only exist in the final second of December 31st. We are new to the universe by most all interpretations of the phrase. This is why the argument that if life exists it shouldn't be intelligent can be pretty dull. Consider the exponential growth of technology. Imagine a species born into existence, say, 3 seconds before the end of December 31st. They'd be many, many times more advanced than us. Now imagine a species born in February. They'd be phasing in and out of dimensions by remote control. Plus have you ever seen Star Wars? They can't just make that shit up.
If by "species", you mean modern humans; than it's apparently 11:55pm. I thought I was the only one who thought that. :O
I ripped my post from a Carl Sagan rant in Cosmos so unless you have a better source stop trying to suggest that I'm not always right about everything, because I am. Thanks.
Touche Too shay. I got mine from one of the History channel's programs. D: Also, you're wrong about everything else that doesn't involve anything written on the internet.
I think somebody needed an abduction.... Oh just kidding... In my (unsolicited) opinion, extra-terrestrial or aliens do exist... Like humans, they just lack the technology to travel across the universe to find other intelligent life...
