You're welcome. :) Don't run any EXEs without checking them at Virustotal.com first and you won't have to worry about it.

Thanks ^^;, but telling me where to find out if it has a virus or not isn't the same as telling me where I can download a safe version.

I guess it's some taboo to post a link to a good IPSwin though, so never mind. I'll just take my chances.

I very much doubt it was ipswin that was infected. The malware you described was typical of a rogue ad on a website.

Zophar's Domain ??? Trust sites as far as you can throw them, and that includes Romhacking.net + DeJap

You can run anything even if it has malware in it if you use Microsoft Virtual PC 2007 to install a virtual OS and apply the patch on that virtual OS, your real OS is sandboxed and immune to malware. It's best to use a small and light XP build on Virtual PC, I recommend MicroXP v 0.82, after you install an OS on Virtual PC you should enable Virtual Machine Additions to integrate your real OS with your virtual OS and so that you can drag and drop from one to the other.

Also, there is a program called Sandboxxie that runs things virtually so that they can't damage or infect your PC.
Which is why he should set up his Windows Hosts file to immunize himself to malware off of the Internet.

Install this and update it after it's installed and you're immune. Update it regularly to stay immune to new threats.

Info on what Windows Hosts is:
    http://www.mvps.org/winhelp2002/hosts.htm

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hosts_file

If Hostsman blocks a site you want to visit, you can deactivate it easily or you can use it's Hosts editor to find the site on the blocklist and remove it from the block list, use Find and then check off(the little box next to the entry) any instances of that site in the Hosts file, when you're done Save. Also, you should install it's Hosts Server since having a huge Hosts file would slow down your browser doing lookups otherwise. As a bonus, you also won't be needing an ad blocker.

just to quickly inform you all about another dangerous fake registry cleaning software(actually it's malware) when i could not find VLC media player on my PC which i knew it was i tried downloading it and installing it, but what do I get I get REGISTRY HELPER
a blinking fake registry cleaning program, which I could not use SpyBot Search and Destroy to remove or Malwarebytes Anti Malware because i didn't have it at the time, I was forced to use CCleaner. after that was done it was gone, but it was the most annoying threat on the internet I had ever come across.
