    In a perfect enviroment, I would have 2 HDs and 1 NAS:

    -1 HD for Windows, programs and disposable data.
    -1 HD for important files
    -1 NAS for backing up important files

    Or in a more paranoic setup, I would have another NAS to back up data on the first one. Or a four HD NAS in RAID 1

    nas devices usually use raid internally.

    I know that. But you're not forced to use raid even though most 2 HD nas comes pre configured in raid 1.
