Thought so! version 1.18 is your correct firmware...but you need the _DS_menu.dat as that file is missing, re-download 1.18

If all the kernal files are on the microSD chip they should be no resion why it should not work

And _DS_menu.dat is they file that makes the R4 original work, in fact it's the main file

The firmware will be a compressed file, you need to extract it with winrar, all the files need to go on your microSD card as they are

After a quick read trough: I remember that 2GB cards doesn't work on R4... or am I wrong?

But, my advise would be: back up, format and install the newest kernel!

    Re: Could\'nt find_DS_MENU.DAT

An R4 original can only handle upto a 2gb microDS or a non "sdhc" 4gb chip, an r4 sdhc can handle upto 32gb sdhc chip

Any possible chance it could be the make of microsd chip you are using ?, I have kingston 2GB and had no problems with that make...
