That doesn't have much to do with conscience as it has to do with manners.

i sometimes have trouble with right and wrong... i might look at one thing that would be morally good but personally wrong, (helping someone that is in trouble... ie. fight) and it bugs the hell outta me because i'm the one getting the boot to the face, but i hold up well against the typical "30 year old anime pervert who gets in fights with his girlfriend because he keeps calling her 'Oruhime' ". and by getting into that fight i've set back everything else... which sucks.

its good to have one, but imo, we shouldn't always listen to it.

While you have good intentions, the out come isn't all too good. Just like telling the truth vs lying we need to choose to listen to our conscience or to tune it out. As for stopping a fight, never do that, even though it's well intentioned, you'd get hurt more than the two people implicated in the fight. Find an authority figure to stop it, they'd stop.

Moderation is key, moderation applies to almost everything. If you have too much, bad, if it's too little, bad. We all need to find a balance.

I think we do need it-other wise I may have abused these chainsaws laying around...

Seriously though-You would have to be brought up perfect surrounded by perfect people in order not to do anything stupid.evil/psyco-etc...

I was not-if not my concious I may have done many bad things-you can be taught right from wrong-but wether you'll stick to the path of rightousness is another story...

I hardly believe that 25% of the population doesn't have a conscience. I would be inclined to believe that these 25% simply doesn't listen to it. Unless they have an handicap.
Conscience is what separates from animals.
Example : I'm at a bar, I see this Oh so very hot girl dancing. My natural impulsion is that I really want to go and have sex with her. So technicaly why not just go ahead strip her and do it? Because that conscience tells me it's moraly bad. Compared to animal, they mate and that's it. Even saw those dogs mating? I doubt they got any conscience telling them not to do it. Dog's horny dog just gets to it.

Whoa re we reffering to when we say 25% doesn't have a conscience? Violent impulsive people and such ?

    Yeah I agree with this,
Conscience isn't an 'inner voice' in your head.
It's your natural instinct to make decisions based on your own indinvidual context (life experiences and influences) and lessons you have learned about what is right and wrong.
All people have a conscience; it's their choice to either ignore it or act upon it.

Dolphins kill porpoises for fun and bottlenose dolphins have tried (sometimes successfully) to rape other animals/humans. (here's a link -> http://www.doublex.com/blog/oystersgarter/dark-secrets-dolphins-dont-want-you-know?page=5)

There are several other animals that kill for sport as well.

I think consciences are important because they're what separates us from animals, what makes us truly human.

Yes we do. Without conscience we would always make mistakes even if we could of avoided it
